If you look at this little sheet here, the first thing, I mean, forget about the title really, loving teaching prayer, it says here, but forget about the title. We use that, normally we don’t even use that for London? Teaching. London teaching we use lineage prayers. I don’t’ know why, but, and that what it is. So forget about the title, (0:0:31)………crossed, three times, and then look next word is there: “gate, gate, paragate, parasamgate bodhi svaha” whether you say it three times, or one time, or twenty two times, it doesn’t matter. I’m sure you are familiar with they call the “heart sutra”. Ahha, there are some familiar faces here, ok, what are you coming all, all three of you here? Or you can sit here, sit here with, yeah , this side too. Whatever, you know?
Actually: gate, gate, paragate, parasamgate bodhi svaha is the essence of the heart sutra. Those of you familiar with the buddhist thing called: heart sutra, you know: no nose, no ear, no tongue, no something goes on all the time. If you look at all those Chinese old tradition, they go on and bit in the fish head and tac, tac, tac …… there is something. The Japanese go on, beating gowns or something: dang, dang, dang, dang….all these is thing called heart sutra, but don’t let me explain this. Otherwise I’m not doing my job. You know, so, so, the essence of the heart sutra is the: “gate, gate, paragate, parasamgate bodhi svaha”. Actually it corresponds to five stages of development in the buddhist teaching tradition. Five stages; but the people walked in, you know, the first preliminatory stage, second, the preliminatory stage would be in which you have to accumulate a lot of merits and all this. So that’s why we call it part of accumulation. Second level called part of action, not only you accumulate and merit, you do something, so that’s why part of action. Third level will be the part of seeing; not only you do something, but you see it, what you are doing, what you are aiming for. The forth part is not only you see it, but you meditate and type of meditate and try to make it actualized and fifth part is normal learning, no more practice. So that means complete completion, whatever it is. So basically in: gate, gate, paragate, parasamgate bodhi svaha, they give you the essence of all five complete parts. And I did give a talk on that in (0:03:34) ……last year, last year or year before? Last year and anyone who knows anything about it and if interested, the tapes are available. I think both, audio and video tapes are available if at all you are interested. Next verse here goes: namu guruva, namu buddha, namu…..: that is the buddhist refuge. Seeking a protection from guru Buddha, darma and sanga. And when you referent to the guru, wherever to guru……..(0:04:20) the buddha and the buddha is all enlighted beings, a dharma is the spiritual development of whatever people have. That is the spiritual development, those who are fully developed and those of us who are type of a copy …(0:04:40). So whatever development you have that is what it is, referent two: dharma. And sanga is the community who help each other to progress on your path. That is basically …………………(0:04:55). Not necessarily referent to the historical buddha and historical dharma as a teaching, historical sanga as group of monks or others, not necessarily in that way. The essence here is really the Buddha within yourself, each one of us has a Buddha natural with us. Whether it is mature Buddha or immature Buddha or seed or whatever it might be. There is a good, basic human quality, good basic human being, good basic human natural and good is that we refer as good basic good Buddha nature and that was Buddha within ourself. And the purpose of taking really refuge is to try to wake up the Buddha within ourself, to connect the immature, the buddha or whatever within us and historical Buddha, fully enlighted and connecting them. Oh, before that, I have to apologize, I was not here last Thursday. Sorry about it, I had to go out for, out of town, and I hope Olav? did a good job. (murmuring from audience), Thank you. So good. I’m also happy because to have …… in the, can talk because she is not here, she is in California tonight, so I can talk, hahah. Very happy to have an American woman who could teach Tibetan Buddhism. And that makes big difference. Not only it she is a learned, information, collected, professional type but a person who really puts a lot of time to practice and who tries to make the difference to her own life. And being an American woman and being able to teach Tibetan Buddhism is something extraordinary. I’m looking for many more teachers, not only a woman, but also male, but the woman teachers are really needed. Hahahaha. And one thing we said, Tibetan Buddhism is a life, living tradition, is whoever be able to teach and be able to make the difference to the others life and that will be, it is, so doesn’t really have to be, to be in the line, to be on the stage. To be in the, what you call it, ahh.. the other day I was watching television, they said no thing good? (0:08:14),is a second line in the president of the United States, or something. So they were saying that whatever the charge is against him they cannot get all the information because he is the second line of the president of the United States and that what I’m looking …. And the lions don’t have to go to one person, only, can be many of them. And each one of them when they pick up, when they knew it, when they meditate, do practice, when they make a difference in their life, they share with others and guide others and become a, what do you call those, become a role model for the others. And that is it how it is all about it teaching Tibetan Buddhism. And that is all go through the linage and that’s all it meant, it’s a living tradition, it’s a continuous. And that’s the reason why Dharma, you don’t have to look something up there, you know, woow , waeh, up there, that’s not that thing. That something happening within ourselves, we have the seed, we have the root within us. It’s only the matter whether you are going to look after or whether you are going to treat it well, or whether you are going to help yourself to make sure that the little baby Buddha within you. It doesn’t matter whether it’s male or female or whatever it is. So that’s the thing. And then we are all supposed to…the Sangha, we are all supposed to remember of Sangha? Not we are all, I mean, here there may be for one if you…… (0:10:15 ) what’s again….may or not be remember, hahah, Sangha, but basically those people who are practice , are member of Sangha. There is no card, clopped that you can carry, you know, like the American express have cards and not the time you know for all this sort of things. It’s not that type of cart credit I can remember. That member, the Sangha member here is really person who is really interested to developing himself, or herself through the stage of a spiritual development, whatever the level one can go, it doesn’t matter, if you can become a Buddha, great. If you cannot become, a second level, great. If you cannot become second level, but third level it’s even great, so that’s how you look at, that’s how you work and that’s why interested to be in bed, lying and working at the members of the Sangha. No fees, no card, nothing, that’s what it is. Basically, oh protector, this is implication or bla bla, three lines here, but that is an invocation. Basically, all the enlighten beings are everywhere, believe it or not, everywhere, that’s the extraordinary quality of the enlighten beings which are different than us, because their body and their mind is one. There is no separation of, normal American language you can say they function on same frequencies, even more than that, they are oneness, body, mind is reunited. So, wherever their mind is, their body there. (12:33)…..certainly, ordinary, physical form that you and I can acknowledge: ah here he is, or here she is. It might not be, they have their own body. So that’s the body. Yeah, you can come over here, that corner here.
So, body and mind are functioning at same frequency or even union, even more than that, an union; what happens is, wherever their mind is, their body is there. So, the enlightenment means all knowing, knowing everything, everywhere, all the time, so if it is enlightened, knowing everything, everywhere all the time, then they are there, everywhere. And that’s why normally even in the Cristian tradition, when they say God is everywhere, this doesn’t have a problem for me, at all. The Cristian God is supposed to know everything and if knowing everything it’s there all the time, everywhere. So, whether you have some kind of, what do you call those? Images, figures or images, representations of any physical thing, icons, whether you have it or you don’t have it, it doesn’t matter. So everywhere is there, that’s the point. Some people will say: can not be there and so, should not be there and all this and that, it’s immaterial. Why? Because the level of the enlightened beings goes beyond icons. Whether there is an icon or not icon, it doesn’t matter. There is a knowledge, the knowing is the contact with the mind there, so the physical, that’s called extraordinary quality of enlightened beings and we don’t have it. That’s the difference. So the implication is not necessary, not necessary, they are there. However, our rational mind is such a thing, it makes difference to some people. Oh yeah, I said implication, I invited the …(0:15:18) to see it. Oh yeah, I knew it’s there. Hahah, don’t’ people say that. So anyway, so you really know it, or really don’t know it, it satisfied the human ration of mind and that’s why the implications are introduced, basically it’s not necessary. I told you the reason. But, still we’ll do it to satisfy our mind. And after that I bow down in the body’s space and mind. It’s actually what we call it, ahhh…(16:02) respect or even they call that prostration in ahh English. The word prostration does not justify the meaning of this. Definitively, the word in Tibetan, I mean, I don’t know English, so I have to follow those translators what they say. So, the word in Tibetan is: chuk saol? Instead of that prostration. The meaning is: I respect you because I like your qualities. I admire your qualities. And I even want your qualities, and that’s the reason why I respect you. It is a ..other and extreme prostration, bow down, you know, the Chinese tradition: they keep, Japanese they bow a lot, all the time they bow, but they will not catch you. They will not catch you, green dollars, but so they bow, you like it, hahha. Very similar to that, we want to catch their qualities, so we bow them. Hahah, that’s a joke. Laughter in the audience. Thank you for laughing. But the true reality is why we do the prostration here because we admire the quality. Even the quality what I mentioned to you, the body-mind same frequency. Everything in there, together, how wonderful is this, right? And even in us, we can imagine, we can even imagine, we can all imagine that mind knowing one by one. We cannot think a mind four, five things together. But enlightened beings knowledge is total knowledge, means everything, everywhere, whatever is may be happening, know right at that moment. For one doesn’t block the other, this is again a difference between our level of, I cannot use, better not use, brain, but our level of knowledge, understanding and their level is different. Ours is one blocks the other, we can see one by one, think one by one and most you have a big trainee maybe you’ll be able to think three things together. But even then it’s not the same …..(18:44) you haven’t division there. But enlighten beings see and think and function every thing, wherever, whatever, who so ever, mind, their knowledge, their perceiving, the …(19:00), whole discipline meant, regret, joy, everything, they will see it all the time, together. That’s a big difference. it’s fantastic. And yeah, such a thing happens, you will go crazy, but they don’t. They know how to manage very well, without putting any effort. They automatically manage. I mean, think about it. How do the computers achieve now this. And if you think that 20 or 30 years ago if your father was talking about this little computer can do this work in such a way, you think it’s crazy. So the same thing, the enlighten level has that sort of functioning. We can now think thanks to the computer. That’s why we do have some way of looking at it, at least. Anyway, so that’s why we respect them because we like their quality. So not only we respect, we like their quality, we also send a message there, saying I want that quality. That’s the reason why the Japanese bow, because they are like green dollars. They want it. Ok? I hope there are no Japanese here, hahaha. (everybody laughing) otherwise I may have to perform hara-kiri. Hahahh (everbody laughing). Anyway, that was a joke, ok? So, I’m pleasant offering both actually, …(20:41) and mentally created. That’s the act of generosity. Mental exercise, mind training of ..(20:52) and generosity. Be generous. Be generous, that’s right English or wrong English? (inaudible) Be generous. And if you want to be really generous physically, you keep on writing cheques and throwing dollars, we may be not able to do it. Malesh? Even though we are willing to do it, but we are not able to do it much. But to make it more effective, if actually …(21.24) and mentally created, remember, the spiritual practice is basically, it’s the mind training. Not like simple mind training kind of thing, but training your mind in a positive way so that we change our negative habits into a positive functioning. So that, whatever you do, it becomes a pure being, pure life, pure functioning, pure person and pure act. So, therefore for any actions that we perform it becomes pure, when it becomes pure, we…(22:07) have the result of a pure what? So actually, what is a Tibetan Buddhism? It’s nothing than that of correcting our negative addictions in a positive functioning. And that is all about Tibetan Buddhism. So, every training here will do the same thing. The first is generosity. Be generous, generous of whatever, everything best available, everywhere. That has not to be necessarily have to be your own. Wherever you see any beautiful landscape, the wonderful, the mountains, the beautiful trees, the rivers, the universe and of course, whatever good you have, without any hesitation, without any attachment, without any hope of return we offer to the enlighten beings. Actually, you may have a glass of water only to put there, but in your mind it’s the beautiful river that filled up the whole universe. Not a flat, you don’t want it, right? So that’s what it is. And that’s why you sit there and maybe you are sitting in a tiny that room or maybe a tiny hall? Or normally American that’s big, so whether you are sitting on the king size or queen size of bed or whatever may be, but still you can think the offerings are the holy universe filled up with these beautiful things……in tibetan language (0:23:59) whether it is own by somebody else or not, it doesn’t matter, mentally we are offering them and so that’s what it is. So mentally you do that. So that’s the mind training. That gets the benefit, it’s better than riding? cats. ? (0:24:25) hahah, but on the other hand, on the other hand, the essence of generosity, mind training of generosity is actually developing the part of giving, part of sharing, part of giving, this is the real essence of generosity, really true. But that doesn’t mean you can be very stingy, completely, you don’t’ want to share anything and keep on thinking you will be better generous, does it work? No. You practice what you preach. Normal American … isn’t it? Prayers: you practice what you preach, that’s it. Also, you know what Tibetans keep saying: being generous: great, but to be generous, to be generous, when your vegetables become yellow and butter becomes blu. (laughter in the audience). You know what that means? Its’ getting bad so better giving it away.hahahha, that one do? (0:25:37) really true. That one do. Basically, what does generosity, generosity does two things. Not only be generous be helpful, but main thing for you, what you do, is cut your attachment to articles and things, you know. That’s what it is. It’s a forcefully cutting, forcefully cutting. So that’s why being generous means really being, it’s great in this country, people are so kind and wonderful, wherever there sees any sort catastrophe anywhere, we are all of us very, very happy to reach our wallet and share with that. It’s correct we should rejoin that. But to be true generous and whatever you’ve done, one give it, you know, wherever a feeling pinches? (0:26:41), let it go. That is the real essence. Wherever you feel pinch. You know, we’ll do that, you give old clothes away and then go back and look around, well I like that coat bag? You know, getting back, so actually that is stealing.(laughters in the audience). It’s cheating, too. Anyway, I don’t’ want to talk about that tonight. Ok? Thank you. Generosity, what is it? To purify all diluted actions, this is extremely important. You know what happens, these little lines are the actual essence of a huge process, that people can go and for years and years they can do this, it is (0:27:32)here, so if you want some kind of direction, if you want some kind of daily practice or something to do, this is it. This is it, doesn’t matter what tradition you belong to, doesn’t matter even if you are not Buddhist, doesn’t matter, this is technique valuable in Buddhism, you can take that, use anywhere you want to. The purification, the purification is extremely important. You know, all the negative we have, negativities that we have, creates negative Kharma. The negative Kharma creates suffering, it’s because suffering is negative Kharma. So what do you do if you have created negative Kharma, we all create negative Kharma. The problem with us is if we create negative Kharma we think I’ve done something wrong, …(0:28:35) So, rethink, we have done something wrong and I’ve been doomed, I’ve been miserable, I’ve been terrible, you know, all this we think, but what we are forgetting, what the Buddha reminds us, Buddha reminds us that there is no such a negativity or negative Kharma which you cannot purify. There is no negative Kharma. Big no, underline! Negative Kharma which cannot be purified. Are you with me? There is no such thing called negative Kharma which cannot be purified. No matter whatever you do, any negative that we create, we can purify. Believe it or not. According to Buddha that’s the reality. According to the logical point of view if you can make sense to your own mind by your own thoughts, it’s true. Why? Because it is changing. It is impermanent. Negative Kharma, negative action, negative thought, positive Kharma, positive action, positive thought, negative result, positive result, all of them are impermanent. It changes, it changes like we change, we change ourself, we are born as a baby, that big. (laughters in the audience) and keep on growing, keep on growing to the today’s level where we wear glasses, maybe hearing it, may be grey hair, maybe bold headed one. Bold headed one is considered sexy.(laughters in the audience) Anyway, hahaha, so anyway that mean changing from there to there, from there to there it changes, right? So, as we are changing because we are impermanent, that’s why we change. If we are permanent we should remain that baby in that level, all the (0:31.24)….. hahah, …..like it.(laughters). That’s what it is. So, when you really get changed why we cannot change our deeds? You change, I change, she changes, he changes. How is the change? Even not permanent stucked as those art pieces, they make, whatever it is, hey all change. The trees change, the birds change, the environments changes, the inhabitants change. For when you are changing, so changing makes it possible to purify, changing makes it possible to be different. Basically, changing is something extremely important. We like it, we hate it. But that is in our essence and that’s why we have room for purification, that’s why we have room for development, that’s why we have room to meditate, that’s why we have room to make the difference to our life by ourself. Changing, impermanent. The growth in impermanent is that, but suddenly impermanent is every minute. The medium impermanent is still, look the difference, becoming bold headed unless you shave it, that’s different. Anyway, so that’s why, that’s why even our deeds can change. The laws of the land change, the rules change, right? The cars change, the manifacturers change, everything changes, changing. So that’s why everything is possible. Purification is possible, that’s one of the reasons, me, this fellow, personally did not buy, what we call it? Guild trip. Never buy, I keep on saying it, no matter, whoever maybe, you cannot give me the guild trip because I’m not going to buy it, because of this changing. Ok? This is not my subject further ….(0:34:16).
So everything is possible to purify. To purify it do I have to say: I did so and so and something and I want to purify: it’s not necessary, not necessary. Why? The negativities are not attached with our bubble? sound, negativities are attached with our consciousness. The pure regret is necessary, pure regret you should have in your mind. Because it’s the mind which makes the difference, not the voice. Are you with me? Are you with me? You are. Thank you. That’s what it is. If you keep on saying all our negativities you find, you cannot even say it. You won’t even know. When you are driving a car, how many insects will get killed under your tire? Specially if you drive on a dead road, …. (0:35:38) right? So that’s what happens. And every time you drive through the roads and you get a nice smell from stunk, why, somebody hit it. Right? Some cow maybe hit the …. So that’s why you get all that big smell there. All this sort of things, whether we know it or don’t’ know it, lot of them are there. So there is not even the time for us to count what negative actions we have, negative Kharmas. So the best thing is to do it, a pure purification, whether knowingly or unknowingly, any negativities that I’ve done I purify here with a sincere pot? (0:36:32) and mean it. Once you are doing it. And there is the application of four powers. Power of four makes everything work. Well, I’m not going to talk about tonight. It will come later maybe in this part hopefully. There is the application of four powers and so of four powers disguise the negativities, the negative Kharma. And that’s how you get a proof anyway. So then another one, the next step is to accumulate merits, to make a good thing. You know the best trick is to rejoy what others did, good ones rather than heading it? Rather than being jealous. You know what we do, we always get jealous, when somebody does something good we say: oh yes, well, it’s very nice, but, (laughters from the audience) blablablabla, not pure, not sincere, there is this, that. So that’s our bad negative habit. Our real addiction to jealousy makes that. If you are appreciating when somebody did something good, you appreciate it and put full stop therw. and good, real done well. But we put comma there and say but. This is a good example how attachment of jealousy, or jealousy addictions works with us. I want to put chairs there, please. I’m really feeling uncomfortable, thank you. Yeah, that’s better. Thank you, ok. Not only you drive all the way from … and you not only drove here every Thursday and come …. And sit on the floor, it’s not that great. We are rejoiced, hahaha. So that’s the example how our neurosis work, how our jealousy works with us, automatically, somebody does, no matter, whatever may be. You’ll like to say, great, wonderful, but. All the time, most of the time, anyway. Because that’s addiction to jealousy. Works that way. If you can put the period there and that’s really the rejoice of all what? Forget about it. It’s very positive for us in the spiritual path. What … you get, the other persons works, you appreciate and you get equal amount of benefit according to Buddha. That’ what it is. So, the best thing is let them work and enjoy here. (laughters in the audience) Rejoy and get the benefit equally. Why not? Couple of years ago, I was in Italy and was giving a talk in a summer retreat and I said rejoice is one of the best investments without any risk of loosing, which is true. But a month later I came to Brasil and there was a T-shirt saying: rejoice is the best, hahahahah, met. the teachers already made. It’s taken month, they have made the T-shirts in Hongkong and next time is available in Brasil. For sale, hahahah. I did not get any royalty or (laughters), hahah, nothing. Anyway, so the rejoice makes different. So, these seven points here are selected by the enlightened beings for us to make easily difference in our spiritual journey. These are our food in the spiritual path, when you are traveling. These are the water that we can drink when you are traveling on the spiritual path. These are the motels where we can rest. These are the car you can drive, these are the plane you can catch. This is what it is. Ok? So then the remaining is not that important, I request to …..enlightment, I request of wise and compassion, kindness, that is, comes with that. So I can’t …………that’s what it is. (0:42:41? And then I dedicate my merit to benefit all beings. That is another extremely important. Because good Karma will also have, it’s like positive and negative Karma is like a war or a chest game you play. Right? You play that white and black chess and then you have the horses going here and the bishops going there and the castles are going there and the queen is going everywhere. Right? So just like that, just like that, the other side they also have a queen. The queen is the anger, the anger is the queen. Why? When the anger comes it burns everything, anger is like a fire. Actually, anger and hatred combined is like a fire which consumes all the trees, right? When there is a wild fire, we see every year in the United States, everywhere, every year. What do these fires do, they burn those trees, whether it’s good or bad, whatever it is, but they take all the trees. Likewise the human beings, the anger consumes our positive Karma. Ok? Here we introduce purification. Purification is the queen for positive side because you can purify all the negative actions, you can go here, you can go there, as long as you have support? You can go everywhere taking everybody out of the table, right? Likewise anger could do the same thing, so to protect that nothing but you dedicate. If you dedicate for something, one of the qualities of Kharma is called definite. So, when it is definite, for definite purpose, with a definite mind, with a definite action so gives a definite result and using that rule for and protecting our positive Kharmas, not to be burned by our anger is the dedication. And that’s why these are very selected, important points that you can practice, you can act, you can think, you can say it, you can meditate every day. You can, you don’t have to. Earlier I told you, no one can force anybody what to do, right? So that’s what it is, these are the seven (inaudible) (0:45:45) so almost close to 1000 years ago. Sort of, more than 1000 years ago. And …said: in Tibetan language…..he says: Enlightened beings had conference and thoughts for years what best we can make people practice easily, make them benefit easily for them. For there seven points. Seven conclusions. So, these are the seven, they call it, that’s why they are also known as seven branches, seven limps, you know like hand and legs and all this. So, without it you cannot walk, without which you cannot sit, without which you cannot move and that’s why it’s called lymph? So this is what it is. So I’d like to introduce that tonight before we even talked the subject, I don’t know. Yes it took our half time. So anyway I cannot go on talking every day on this, if you have questions I’ll be happy to answer. But I’d like to introduce this as a practice, so what we will do, Carla is kind to enough to leave that, some may have chant? Some may not have chant. But whatever it is, he does reading? And pink, whatever I told you. You can think what you read, said word, and taught to be and what you said. Then it’s the spirit spotted by the mind, that’s called meditation. Believe it or not. Meditation does not depend on how you sit or how you breath, doesn’t depend on that. You can meditate on anything, anywhere, including on your own trone, in your own bathroom. (Laugthers), ok? Hahah, so I’ll like to take a little break, you need that, oh yeah, sure. From (0:48:54) to (0:54:21) singing in tibetan language: gate, gate, paragate….and prayer.
Ok? Let’s introduce you basically and that’s how you can do your practice and you can meditate. I bow body, speech and mind. Whatever we talked that, you can think both and that’s called meditation. Ok? And then the second, whenever you are ready at any event, no? whenever you are ready then move to the next. I present offerings, both actually arrangements, I talked to you earlier. That’s what you should do. And we can’t hold here on too long in the same sitting meditate, it won’t work. So, I’ll give you a short time so you can think and if you want to do by yourself in your own home, you can do this. And if you have the time, all the time in the world, you can meditate and sit there until the cows come home???? (0:55:24).(laughters) ok? That’s what it is. Excuse me, so, I said last time, precious human life can’t but once. I hope I’v all covered that, but everybody told me that I’ve covered precious and ahm, right? What …..inaudible, she did the whole thing? Ok, anyway, why we call human life precious? Why? Anybody has any reason? Carol? You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to. I’m not putting you on the spot. Yes Sir. Inaudible. What? Inaudible. The cockroaches life, the life of cockroach, is that precious life?, because they will die soon, too. Not different between human life and cockroach’s life? Inaudible. Perhaps my life is different because it’s my life? Oh! At least for me the human life and the cockroaches is quite different, hahaha. Though cockroache’s life is life and it belongs to the cockroach, but the human life, what we can do and what we cannot do. From that angle what cockroach can do and what cockroach cannot do, big difference. You got to take at that, I don’t’ think we can argue on that. There is a difference. Life sure is equal, precious sure it’s equal, but what human beings can do cockroaches cannot do. Please buy that, there is no reason to think. Really true. What we call the scientific achievement, take knowledges a breakthrough, green revolution, all, where are they coming from? They are the human achievement, believe it or not. Einstein, he was called Einstein, right? Einstein was definitely a human being and not a cockroach hahahah, the cockroache doesn’t have IBM. Hahaha, maybe they have, they are living ……..(59:25), hahah. I’m joking. So, the achievements, what you can achieve in life, whether it’s material or spiritual, what the human life as a human being can achieve is big different than that of any other life. Though we may think some kind of extra, ah, what is it? Extra what? (audience inaudible) Yeah, that’s it, I can’t pronounce, you know we watched that movie called close encounter with the third kind and we always enjoy the start track, all the time, right? And encounter of something else all the time. So, we may think something very great there, we don’t know, we don’t know whether they are great or not. We are not contacting with enlightened beings, that’s for sure. We may have some ….gods? but small ….gods or even that contact with some kind of angels and things like that, that’s possible. But basically, the human capacity, both on the spiritual and material, cannot be challenged or developed by any other life or form according to the Buddha, 2500 years ago made that statement. I don’t know who is earlier, Einstein or Buddha, hahaha, anyway. So that’s one of the reasons why human life is so precious. Taking a peer of that, going through the spiritual path, before even going on the spiritual path I should really have a big argument here saying that the spiritual development is necessary or not necessary. I think we should have that conversation ahead, even before we say, taking granted that spiritual path is something great. But before that we have really have to look is it spiritual development, is it necessary for us or not? Like a usual, western thing, is called is a bell necessary on the bike? So, is the spiritual necessary for the human beings? Right? That question it think individually has to answer by yourself. By individual rather than collectively, we say yeah or no or so or so said so. No? that is something very important that each of us has to think. That’s what we call: look inside. Is it necessary or not necessary, that’s very important to think. If you think it’s necessary, you must ask yourself why. Why? If you think well if you get an answer Buddha said so, of Jesus said so, or Profet Muhammad said so…. Yeah fine. But for me, what does that mean to me? Is the spiritual path necessary for me in downtown Burmigham? Well, I’m an American, I’m a mid-western, I’m living in the area where the industrial revolution took place. Right? So, if spiritual practice is necessary for me you must think that. If you’d like to be a little more mystical you must meditate that. If you don’t want to be mystical start on think and see what answer you get. You say yeah, because, blablabla. The true thing is, the true thing is: am I absolutely happy? Am I absolutely free as an American, born in an area where the industrial revolution took place? Am I free? You may think who the hell is this guy? A refugee from Tibet kicked by communist cinese and come here and try so say am I free, who is he? Of course we are free, we are Americans. Constitution garanted our freedom. You may get that answer too. On the other hand you may also get: yeah I’m free, nobody is pushing me, my mum is not going to beat me up, or you know. I do whatever I want to do, I’m free. You may get that answer too. You may get as well the answer: well I don’t think so, I get what I wanted, not giving it, what I don’t wanted since becoming up all the time???? I get sick, I get this problem, I get mental, physical, emotional problems and I also get older, I get to die. You may get that answer too. So, all of those above are true. So, you have to be true to yourself. You have to be true to yourself. One thing I want you to remember, the Buddhism, the Tibetan Buddhism is nothing else except the personal experience of Buddha dealing with the life and its problems. And whatever Buddha found way out, we try to follow the same thing, try to apply the same thoughts, the same ideas, same attitude, same wisdom. We try to apply it on our problems, and we try to get a way out. That is Buddhism, Tibetan Buddhism. It’s not that we are willing here for Buddha to come and save us. It’s not that we pray to be free from our neurosis. No, we don’t do that. We are responsible to ourselves, whatever we are capable or not, we must make an attempt. Whether you have … or not, you must bite with guns even, ( 1:08:26) even if you have only guns, you must bite with that, and that opportunity we have. That possibility, provided by this life, human life, because of its intelligence, because of that. Buddha made it, as a human being not as an angel up in the air. That’s why human life is precious. The life that we have today and the life that the Buddha Sagimoni, had, 2500 years ago. There is no difference except he happens to be the prince of India somewhere, wealthy fellow, who had 500 gold rings or something, queens or something (laughters) that’s the only difference,( laughters), really. The mind capacity what that Buddha processed before become enlightenend being and the mind capacity what we have, is the same thing. We might not be so brilliant as he was, but we still have the same capacity to improve. We might be not so brilliant like Einstein, but we still have the capacity to understand what the people shows you. We might be not so brilliant as computer programmer, but whatever the program, we can work with that, we have the capability. We knew it, you know it, I know it, we all know it. We see that, we work that, that’s our capacity, that’s a human capacity. Either achieved by Einstein or Buddha, it’s a human achievement. Is there anybody who disagrees with this? Anybody? If you do, raise your hand, say it. “no, no, no, I’m not saying… inaudible, if you agree with me then keep your mouth shut. Hahaha. I’m joking. Sorry, go ahead. So, whatever you want to. (audience talking: inaudible, (1:11:23) …. That bothered you, right? (laughters…) “You think that human beings is better than the cockroach, right? “. Yes I do. “ok, so are levels there of preciousness or …….within the system of all animals…. Oh yeah, some animals live longer, can make difference bigger than cockroach does, like an elephant or horse, or even cat or dog, and I’m sure that a lot of people here will say: my cat is much more intelligent than that of my cockroaches in my apartment, laughters, I’m quite sure, you’ll get it. And if you think the cockroach and the cat is the same level, you’ll be in the minority. Hahaha. I’m iust joking. It is, I mean from the natural point of view no difference, from the soul point of view no difference, but from the body and from the intelligence point of view big difference. once you are capted in the body, we are in that, we have to identify, we have to function with that. That’s what it is. That’s what life is all about it. That’s the difference between insects, animals, human beings. That’s what it is. When you are free, when you take away from the identity, from the identification, from the body, when you go in the natural, it’s the same thing. No difference, nothing is higher, nothing is lower. But when you are kept in that body, when you are in that identification, when you are there, there is a difference. (question: inaudible). I don’t know, I don’t know. (inaudible) I don’t’ know, really. If you are capable of that verit cockroach, delivering its consciousness into a human body and making a nice, wonderful, young human being, go ahead. This is your privilege. Go ahead without any hesitation, that’s your privilege. And if you do not know what’s going to happen to that cockroach, then you are not sure what Kharma you are going to get, so in that case you’ll be careful. Ok? Thank you. Well, let me finish little more, because if I get questions then I’ll not be able to deal with it, can you wait for a little while? Thank you, you too sir. That’s one of the reasons why it is precious. In addition to that Buddha said its own reason, in addition to that. Buddhi said its own reason and the Tibetan Buddhist says give the big reason. The big reason is it’s this life, is a life that will make a difference to all our lives, I’m coming from the background of living in reincarnation. Basically, the word Rimpoche refers to the incarnated lama. So if I do not believe in reincarnation I’ll lose my job. (laughters) You don’t want that, do you? Laughters , so let me believe in reincarnation, hahaha, I’m talking with the background of reincarnation so therefore this is a life that we have got by chance, so this is a life which will make a difference to our lives when we are cockroach or when we will be cockroach we will not make a difference at all to this life after life business. But we are happens to be human beings, we happens to have into us the capacity apart with the human form and we happens to have that, make best use of it.??? (1:16:38) It is the life that makes the difference and that’s why it’s precious. It’s not that we will be human being all the time, the cockroaches will be cockroaches all the time, no. We change round, if you have reincarnation then we change round, that’s all about reincarnation. Today’s human being can be tomorrow’s cockroach in the same apartment. Laughters, no guarantee. And sorry to say that. Today we pick up that ……..and spray on the cockroaches, tomorrow it’s other way round. Brrrrr….. (laughters) …..(1:17:49) can happened. See, that’s why we need spiritual practice, that’s why we have to make a difference in all our lives, not only that, we have to make a difference to our lives that we have today. It’s not only the future life, the life what we have today, we don’t want to waste this life without any positive impact on ourselves and on the others. And that’s why we need spiritual path. We can make a material difference to ourself and to others that doesn’t last very long. What really lasts is the spiritual path, that makes difference, that’s why we need it. That’s why we need freedom, freedom from the neurosis that make us to switch between human being and the cockroach. It’s only our neurosis that make that possible. If you are free of those neurosis, attachment, anger, hatred, jealousy, if you are free of that we won’t switch around between the cockroach and one of the apartment complex. Laughters, and that’s why we need spiritual path and that’s why life is precious. Think about it. You have one week to think and if you still think it’s not possible tell me at the Kingsley inn, same road? Right down road they said, this way or that way? Which road you are talking? Wood wood road, not ……road, I thought we are ….road. Ok, so wood wood, Kingsley Inn, somebody said over the …..something? Denis? Ok, I think the room here is not available next Thursday for us, so we have to move one night to the Kingsley and if you know anybody who’s been coming here and who cannot make it tonight because of the rain or whatever the reason may be. If you know it, please inform the person, whoever you know it, who comes here but not happened to be here tonight. And also is it possible for you to put up some sign here which says wherever we are? And I let you ask the questions now. Inaudible: (1:21) I thought I …. from the Buddha to cockroach, Einstein to ourself.??? Inaudible it’s the same thing, inaudible, sure, why not? inaudible Nonon…I didn’t say that, I said this particular life, with this particular identity with this particular mind whatever we are today, that is precious and I try to say that the cockroach is not precious, hahaha, so I’m giving a sort of question on that. (inaudible) well he does have a precious life, inaudible, no, he is capable of doing good and bad, he did bad, he did bad, he did bad, no question. But the life what he has, is capable and a precious life. If he, who happens to be I’m able to deal with his neurosis and without any limit he went out without caring what ever happens to the other person, and that’s the bad part of it. That’s not the fault of life, that’s the fault of a person and its neurosis. ….. to the Jeffrey Darma or something, right? All of those, Hitler, Mao tse tung, (inaudible) all of those, that what it is. That’s why it’s such an important vehicle, that what we have, the human life. It’s extremely important vehicle, it can do good tremendously, it can do bad tremendously. Our mind is such a thing, we can develop such a great technological development, make a big difference to American life, we can also produce ….(1:24:06) and do the same thing. And that is the capacity we have, that’s what is important vehicle. So, it’s furthermore, so important that we treat it right, we handle it right. We don’t’ want to dive without control, we don’t want to dive, this human life vehicle when we are high with the neurosis. That’s what happens. Sir, you. (question indaudible). Sure, whatever we kill, Kharma affects. Our own Kharma effects and all sort of things. This kharming thing I’m going to talk next time, it’s a big ….it is more complicated than usual American legal system, (laughters), believe me. (question inaudible) Not only reduced, but you won’t came back as cockroach at all. Laughters, (lady speaking again: inaudible) that’s the spiritual path, ……of it, and that’s why we have to say, this and we have to make difference. Because of our intelligence capacity. Ok. Thank you so much, I’d like to end here, excuse me, sorry, I had ….. to dinner, that’s why. At home, nice vegetarian, I don’t’ know, I ….(1:26:25) so, (laughters) that’s a very nice and wonderful and delicious vegetarian, salmon dinner at home, that was pupping up, I’m sorry. So, we’ve been saying I dedicate my merit for the benefit of all beings. So, whatever we do here, we have a spiritual practice, we are doing something in the spiritual path. So. we must say two things: one is earlier motivation, when you come down here, next time I’m not going to explain the seven limphs, Carla is going to leave us straightway and you are going to think straightway. If I keep on explaining I’ll only do that, nothing else. Right? So, you follow that and the first thing you do is good motivation, whatever I’m going to do here, I’m doing it for benefit of all beings, not only me, but all beings. And don’t’ ever say to anybody that you are not all beings get out of my way. Ok? So benefit of all beings. You didn’t get that, right? You are not all…….. get out of my way. You didn’t get it. That’s a joke, we say benefit of all beings is like a ……(1:28:03), so when somebody irritates you, saying you are not all…..being, get out of my way, you handle that. That sort of thing. Ok? So anyway, the motivation is extremely important, it’s the key to make a difference in our life. So, if possible, every morning you should have that motivation. And if not we have at least our meeting and that’s where you can pick up that, if you like it, you can extend that before dinner and then before lunch and then before breakfast and have the whole day covered. The end will dedicate, dedicate it for the benefit of all again. So when and how we normally do is we can mix them up, a Tibetan prayer, called: “………next time probably will get another edition, a piece of paper, we’ll make them available for the few people will know here, so Carla will chant one with her beautiful voice and we’ll enjoy listening to here and thank you. Carla singing the prayer from (1:29:41 to end )
