Actually it is giving you an opportunity. One to have a concentrated meditation . That is sort of Samatha orientated. Concentrating. Two, it also serve as , a sort of pre introduction to Vajrayana or Tantra. So, it served two purposes . I hope you be able to understand that and be utilized, opportunity. Secondly, here , whatever we do , we are talking here. You may think it is just simply talk. That’s fine. My purpose of talking here is not simply for the sake of talking. But giving you the material for meditation. Especially giving you material for analytical meditation rather than concentrated meditation. As we always talk here and mention here. It is extremely important to look within ourselves and to look which , what kind of thing will make difference to ourselves. To development. ( 0.02:08.8)

Meditate. Analytical meditation. Because analytical mediation will really make things , you understand in great and give you the opportunity to be able to actualize. Samatha, concentrated meditation . I don’t wont to call Samatha. Concentrated meditation, will stabilize you. And sort of , give you . It stabilize you and give you a solid foundation. But it might not be able to cut lot of problems that we faced, doubts and all of those. So, whenever you listening here. Don’t think it is some kind of lecture. So, think of, it is kind of mediational materials. So when you go home, you analyze all of those and some of them are totally useless. Make sure you throw them out. And then maybe one or two maybe useful and pick them up and analyze. Now, what we doing here is based on the Oddesey to Freedom and the Foundation of Perfection together. For the last couple of Thursdays, I, sort of give a general talk rather than pin point on the points, right? So, now it is the time for us to pin point on the points. Otherwise we will be very general and no depth. So we have to go down today, into the depth and say where are we. Can you tell me? Can anyone of you tell me?( 0.04: 52.1)

Did we talk understanding of values or not? Did we? We did talk. And appreciation? We did talk. What is next then? Number what? Number twenty. We should also look into the . Oh, that’s a very interesting subject tonight. We should also look into the Foundation of Perfection because this will definitely tell it. And , can you, can any of you give me the verse? What is before that? So what number now? Verse. They don’t have numbers. Okay. Is the third or second or whatever it may be. What it said? I am sorry, I have to think in Tibetan. I cant get it with the English. Now, this verse will tell you. Our body , our life, everything is like a bubble out of water. Right? Did they say that? So actually, really what they are trying to tell you is try to check yourself. Meditate. And think. This is very funny but nobody does. But it is interesting. You ask yourself. How long am I going to live. How long am I going to live. And then you look the answer by yourself. So long way. The answer is going to get to you. Maybe eighties, even nineties. Over hundred . Maybe. It always people have the wrong way to look rather than I am going to go tomorrow or next month or next week. ( 0.08: 21.2) We always have the wrong thing. That is because we wanted to be the best possible. Best longevity. Then you raise a question. Will I really live that long. And then answer might be I hope so. Let’s se what is wrong with me. I just had my yearly check up with the doctor for last week and found that nothing’s wrong. And they told me . They gave me clean sheet. And confirming that I am healthy. So I hope I will be long. Or some people will say, well I have a chronic . Let’s say me. I have . I am diabetic. Blood pressure . What is it. Enlarged heart. And what’s else is there. Gout. And all these sort of things. So , maybe not so long. So all these reasons will come up. But if you really analyze properly, We really don’t know. We really don’t know., We can give a lot of hope with a lot of reasons. And we can also give so much of hope with a lot of reasons. No matter whatever it may be. Actually it is true. We have very fragile body. And very fragile health. Basically, the body on which we , our minds basis. You know it is a base . It is really the place you will be. So the mind is based on the body. So the body which is the base of the mind is very very fragile and very impermanent. Extremely impermanent. This is our problem. So the mind of living forever and mind of , you know , sort not remembering death and dying, is actually cause of laziness and the delay, that whatever we have to do, we always look for tomorrow or day after tomorrow or after these urgent, important matter that I have to handle. When that’s over I will devote myself to practice. (0.11:57. 4) Something to benefit my future. Future lives. And sort of that delay is continuing delay for everybody. No matter whatever it might be. When it is over, another will come. The earlier Tibetan teachers used to say. It is like standing on the bank of ocean , hoping you will finish that wave. And you keep on seating there and one wave goes and another wave comes. There is no end to it. And we cannot stop because we don’t think how urgent it is. We don’t think. Anything can go wrong with our life, anytime. Which is absolutely true. One of the great Tibetan teacher called Gumpang Jampayang said “ Whether tomorrow is going to come first or so call future life, which is going to come first. Who knows. Nobody knows. “ If you think carefully, it is true. The number of people who go sleep and don’t get up tomorrow. We all know that. I have a friend. A Tibetan noble, what you call that, nobility family member. And he was the Dalai Lama, a very good friend, my personal friend. He was the representative of Dalai Lama in Sikkim . If you know what that is. Sikkim. And he died when he was smoking cigarette. He had a dinner, had a cup of coffee, and smoking cigarette and he puffed out a couple of times, and suddenly he going to go like this and throw the ash out . Pop. Went. And heart attack and went like that. So, I was not there but I was told. That’s how he died. So, people do that all the time. Which really meaning , our life is a wonderful life , it is beautiful, fantastic and it is important. It is capable to delivery , enlightenment to ourself. Whatever you want to. Achievement in life, materially, you can do with this life. If you want achievement of spiritual development, it is getting yourself free from the suffering. You can do it,. If you want achievement so that your future life is a good one, and that you also can do it. If you wanted total enlightenment. This life is capable of doing it. However it is so impermanent. It is really, really. And everyone of us we claim to live years. But you never know. You never know. That sort of thing is standing, sort of , it is really the sharp knife sort of is hanging on our neck. That is the really situation that we are in. You know, in here we look when somebody has a , sort of terrible disease like cancer or affected HIV or something. You say when is the person going to die. But we all going to die. You never know . This chronic disease person is going to die first or ourself. The healthy, well rise, eating, drink juice . Who is going to die first, you never know. You never know. This is the situation. That’s why Buddha recommend us to meditate on that. Why? Because of that we can cut the laziness of not doing today. Everything tomorrow. (0.16: 47.9) You know, truly , tomorrow never comes. When it comes tomorrow it becomes today. So, you pass for another day, tomorrow. In that way, tomorrow never comes. So before tomorrow, somebody call , hey it is time for you to go. Then we have a big problem. At about that time, we have a bigger problem than anybody else does, actually. Actually, anybody else does. Anybody else, you know, who doesn’t have any interest on the spiritual path. Who doesn’t know anything about it. Who , simply a pure yuppie. Or whatever. And then nothing about dying. Then nothing about death. They don’t have to worry about it. You know, I am dying , I dying. Death is beautiful they say or whatever it is, I will face it . No problem. For us , I mean I am sure for you too. But for me, I have worked in the spiritual path, so I sort of I have a little understanding. Very little. But little understanding. So, I am be worrying what is going to happen in my future life. Is it going to be okay or is it not going to be okay. Am I sure what is going to happen. So, I am I see I am not sure what is going to happen to me. And then I regret. I should have done something . Something before. So, I should have done something before when I have all control in my hands. And then I begin to regret. That regret is additional suffering we have. Which the pure yuppies wont have. We do. Because begin to worry about it. So, that’s what I mean. We get even more problem. That’s what I am talking about. So, one of the Kamapa. I think the first Kamapa said. “ In life , we don’t have to worry . We don’t worry. We don’t bother. When you say you dying. You begin to scratch your chest. So, with the regret, you start , I didn’t do that. Must be scratching . So, it is true. (0.19:14.4) If you really look, it is very interesting, our life. Ever since we are born, the minute you are born. The clock started ticking. It started ticking, ticking towards the twelve midnight. I used the twelve because the twelve links of interdependent system. I am sure many of you know or not. But it’ll come a little later. But actually, if you look at your life, it is like twelve important events and twelve one is joy, death, all these are combined together. Actually death on the twelve. So, twelve links. Or twelve interdependent system. How people’s life works. This is not the point right now. So, I am not going detail in this. Simply making how impermanent life is. Clock ticks this. I think it is the seventh Dalai Lama said . so in one those beautiful poetry he mentioned . The moment you are born, you don’t even have the right to live a moment. You’ll be started to running. Running towards a lot of death, with all your power. Like the galloping horse , running. Though we may call it living beings. But we are all on the way of dying. How sad, our situation is. This is the seven Dalai Lama , on his own , based on his personal experience. There are a lot of Tibetan teachers who this sort of poems. When they meditate .When they feel it. When they experience. Then they expressed that in poetry from or drawing art form. Or any one of those forms they do. So, that is the message they give for the future people who are following the footsteps . So that’s what it is. It is a sad indeed, our lives. In one way, we try to make our best we can. Whatever we have do. Put our make ups. Put on the mark ups, right? Put on make ups and dress well , color coordinated. And all these we do. We try to present as best we could. Particularly anything. If you have illness, you don’t want other people to know that you have that problem. You want to hide. Whatever the reason might be. Variety of reasons. Any problem, we like to hide. We present best face. And smile and all these. But it started to smell underneath. So, it will comes out. It will comes out. So whatever we do, that is what we have. At the end it is going to be pain. To make a conclude, this. The Tibetan teachers normally says. What happens, after birth. All births are concluded with death. All accumulations are concluded. It is called concluded, right? Finished. Conclude with exhaustion. You keep on saving , saving, saving, saving. At the end of the saving, it has to go. It has to go. End of saving is exhaustion. ( 0.23: 38.4)

And the companionship, keep on seating together, together, together. At the end of that, separation. So, these are the unfortunate part of our lives. All lives ends with death. All accumulation end with exhaustion. Call exhaustion? When you go high up and the end of going high up , is falling down. So, this is the . That’s why Buddha call this samsara. Because end is always not great one. This is our nature. We have introduce our lives. We have shown how important it is. You have meditated on that. You have resolution saying that I appreciate my life. How wonderful my life is. How important this life has been. What a value it is. All of those , you have done. And now , next step, that is , no matter how important it is, no matter how wonderful it is, no matter how valuable it is, the end is going to be death. So, that is important to remember. I would like to make this five important points here. Point number one. We all , definitely going to go. There is nobody living forever. For Buddha, that spiritual person like Buddha. We talked today. Buddha sad this . That is Buddha’s experience. Buddha did this. Buddha did that. As though we are looking Buddha living in the next room. Or went into the bathroom to take a shower and change clothes. I mean, really, we do that. And we do that. There is something near here. Right here. But if you look the year. It has been two thousand five hundred years since Buddha passed away. ( 0.26:12.4) Indian Buddhist system, you cannot say since the Buddha died. They use the word, prenirvana or something. It is the culture. Indian. Not Tibetan. Pre Nirvana. Maha pre nirvana. That’s what they said. Anyway, if you look about the Buddha , that is two thousand five hundred years. And then look any other great teacher. Any other great teacher. You look around. Atisha will taught. Thousand years. Eleven or twelve hundred years. You talk Guru Padmasambava . That also seventeen or eighteen . Gone. Thousand years , right? And we talk Tsongkapa. We talk Marpa. All of them . Whatever we talk. We talk as though they are there. But is you really think. They are gone. Thousand years. And if you look our contemporary teachers and look back. Like five or ten years ago. Or six or seven years ago. And when you look. Everybody is gone. If you look into those swami Cittananda, Mutananda. All of them are not here today. Though some people may like to believe they still around here, living. Then some people said that. He is still alive. This and that. Don’t they say that? Doesn’t matter. He is a great musician. And Mutananda, Cittananda, all of them gone. Look at Rajanesh. I remember very clear Rajanesh. In India, I remember the Rajanesh run around in somewhere in Oregan, right? And finally, went to Greece , somewhere and was chased out. And back India and all these. Even Rajanesh is gone. If you look around. Like the Tibetan Buddhist, the father of American Tibetan Buddhism, Chogyam Trungpa Rimpoche. Great teacher. Judith there. She knows. And Rimpoche also gone. Look at Allen Ginsberg. We had. Allen Ginsberg. All gone. So when you look to ourselves. And when you look . Even those spiritual teachers. Spiritual developed. Spiritual masters. When you look at them. Each and everyone of them . Gone. So how can we expect to live forever? The mind of , you know, living forever. If you encounter that mind. You will immediately, hearing, you yourself telling . I know I am dying . I am saying I am going to live forever.(0.29:42.2) But that mind influence and ask. Every time we planning. If you look at, we are planning . We planning to live forever. If you check , each and every plan that you have . You plan to live forever except your will. So, otherwise you plan to live to forever. Everything. That’s not true. It’s not going to happen. No one can protect from death. Not a spiritual development. Not a military power. If the military power could protect us, we should have Julius Caesar and , and what is that, the other guy. Napolean should be alive. They are not. Even General Eishehover is not alive, you know. Not really. So the military power doesn’t protect. The economic power? No. You know it. Or the Chinese dynasties. Ming, Ching, whatever. All of them gone. Or all the emperors and kings and queens. All gone. Nobody. Some of them are going so young like Princess Diana. So in short. Oh ya, another thing. You may say, if I have money I can embalm my body. What is it? They put in some, preserving the body. You can think. Ya, I can preserve my body. And they find the cure, I can wake up. And that’s not going to happen. If will wake up. For sure. I can guarantee you. (0.31:51.3) The body will wake up. But the person that wakes up in that body is going to be different person than yourself. I am telling the same thing. The cloning business. People can definitely, I think , it is unavoidable , there will be human cloning. But that’s not going to be the same person. It be different human being. The personality. May look exactly same as you. Better than dream. Maybe. Because the physical aspects is work with the physical genes. The mental aspects works with the mind that travelling around. Sort of the Christian where the soul that is searching for the life , it is going to click in that. So it is definitely going to happen. But going to be you. Don’t ever think your clone will be you. It wont be. The Dolly’s clone will not be Dolly. That’s exactly what going to happen. So, I think the cloning will be somehow. I mean you could pass the laws , lawful years and things like that. It is unavoidable. It is a scientific development. In a way it is great. Only if you treat that human being as a human being. If you treat that human being for the purpose of collecting , harvesting organs. Then it is a terrible thing to do. But the. It is going to be definitely. So, that’s what going to happen. So the life is such that each and every individual life will end with death. Death, is that is the point. Point where the make death is separated. Separated , what we call , so call this life. Things that you see. Things that you are used to it. People that you know. People that all of those. You can talk to them . They can talk to you. All of them , separated. You are no longer, you are not going to wake up the same old way, that everyday we woke up. We woke up something completely different. Actually , do you know, actually death really means separation. Separating your , our physical body and the mind. Separated. When that is true death. And death is definitely, we will all going to face. And I am not going to talk how we are going to die. Perhaps I don’t mind talking a little bit. (0.35: 08.3)

I normally tell people and I try to think and try to meditate. Looking in my body and me , living in there. And I call that a rented apartment. Apartment that I took on rent. It is very beautiful. It is clean. It is wonderful. It is nice. It is warm, it is cold. It has windows. It has fresh air. It is wonderful. It can function. You can receive guests . You can stay in. You can sleep. You can do anything you want to in there. It is wonderful. But some times then the water doesn’t work. The heat won’t work. The roof falls down. So, all of those. When that happens. The apartment is unserviceable, right? I am sure you have a lot in New York. Some times the apartment fall from the middle of the air. Maybe it will hang on the air without any base or what. Sooner or later it will come down. Come down. Like you story of apartment seating in the air. If it Tibetan we would say it is the help of Tara. Didn’t go through at that time. So, when that happens. What do we do ? You have to get out. You cant stay there . You going to fall down together. So, you have to leave. That is exactly what happens . The physical body which is the rented apartment. When it becomes unserviceable The tenant who is living inside has to look for something else. When you have to look when you have to go. You have to pack and go, right? I mean , you like to pack and go. So, what do you have to pack? If you have time , you can pack, a lot of positive karma. If you don’t have time, I have to go. So you don’t have time to pack positive karma, so much. But they will come with you. The positive karma and negative karma. Both follow. That’s why it said that somewhere around in the Foundation of Perfection , it says. The shadow that follows the body tail or something. Isn’t there something . Maybe the next line or something. Shadow tails body. It is just like that. So the karma will come and follow you. It is . Because karma doesn’t have a form. Karma doesn’t have tangibility. Karma is like an I owe you. That’s what it is. The imprint on our consciousness. Imprint on consciousness , so therefore the karma will follow you. So, in short. Even though you may think I am going to live forever. But the way and how we plan. Way and how we function. We always planning to living forever. So you need to change that attitude. Way and how you change that by meditating on the death is definite. It is definite. It is going to happen. Nothing can change. No spiritual power can change. No material power can change. No medical power can change. No military power can change. Nothing. Buddha even said. When it becomes the time . He said Medicine Buddha will be the doctor and helping that . And Vajrapani is the protecting all obstacles. And White Tara is giving all the longevity and all these. Even then the person will die. There is a time that no one can do anything. There is a time. (0.39:58.02)

There is a time that no one can do anything. Over here, normally the medical doctors will tell you there is no cure. Right? Or they say the antibiotic is not working, they don’t know what to do. All these sort of thing. There is a time that no one . Not a spiritual developed, a Buddha, or Jesus or anybody. No one can do anything. Not a doctors can do nothing. Not the family can do nothing. There is a time and each and every one of us bound to face that. Sooner or later. So, why we think now about that. By thinking about that is that for you to create a fear . That is not the purpose. The purpose is not waste your time. The time and opportunity is in your hands. Make best use of it. At the time when you have it. Right now, it is in your own hands. It doesn’t depends on second or third person. The moment you die , it is only depends on second and third person to pray for you. To pray for you, to do rituals for you and dedicate virtues. But now you dependent on the second or third person. Right now you don’t have to depend on anybody. Why don’t we make ourselves okay in our future. If you don’t make it , great. That’s fine. Why don’t you it make okay for future. That you should do, right now. Right now. Don’t wait for tomorrow. Do it right now. What to do. Purify negativities and build positivities. That’s what you should do. (0.42.06.1) That is the true thing. Simply, should do right now. So what I am suggesting here is , think whatever I talk to you. Even Buddha is gone, all spiritual teachers are gone. The big generals have gone. Big, emperors, dynasties , they are all gone. And how can I , alone , live forever. So I am going to go. Before I go, I should make myself ready for my future life. Or whatever the future may be. You not going to disappear like a candle light gone. Candle light gone. You know, the candle light . When the wax finish they disappears, right? The candle disappears. You not going to happen like that. It will continue. You, probably. I am from the background of reincarnation. Many of you are not. You probably think , well this is a big question. I am interested , reincarnation. But how do I know. How do I know there is a future life. How do I know there is a previous life. I am not going to be traditional Buddhist, theoretical point. You say you continuing, blah, blah, blah. I am not going to say that. I , simply like you to note. At the beginning, the little kids. When they open their eyes. When they just begins to walk. When they just begins to function. There are certain things they pick up automatically. Certain things you have to teach them very carefully. And even then it is difficult to pick up. Certain things they comes up automatically. They, somehow knows. Which, we Americans dismiss as natural. But what does that natural really comes from. If it is nature, everybody should have the same thing. It is not. Different people, different kids will have different variety. What do you call it , IQ? Right? Intelligence and the habit. Where that coming from? What that coming from? Lots of those habits. Like ourselves getting angry for nothing. Where that coming from. Without learning , we can get jealous. Where that coming from. Without learning , how to develop attachment. It automatically have that. Where that coming from? Each and every habit, that we have, within our life. Especially at the beginning. (0.45:27.0)

You develop doubt. Can be very powerful, strong doubt. Do not dismiss that doubt. Entertain that doubt and give various reasons. One of the reason they would say, if there is previous life , I should have seen it. I see nothing. I don’t see it . Nobody have kept a record. Nothing else that. I can tell you there is a lot of books in Tibetan language. It is written by the people who died. You know, return form death, whatever you call it. Nothing near death experience. But who really went beyond that and then came back. And there are a lot of those things. And you cant dismiss them because it is not written by Caucasian. In one way. On the other hand, I , myself, is always skeptical of that. I, sort of , you know. I sort of, I read , I edited one. Then I read another one. So, I borrowed from a library , Indiana University library. I sort of borrow everything about this. And I ended up , seventeen, twenty, twenty one or twenty different stories. And when you started reading it , it tends to go the same old story again and again. It all looks the same thing. Different name, different timing and different , a little bit of describing, different. Like all the western books, I was told there is a big light , there is a tunnel and beyond the tunnel there is a light. The Tibetan books, neither they have a tunnel nor there have a light. But they have the same type of hard to get out , hard to get in. And all these same old stories. So, I become very skeptical of myself about those books. But , when you think and when you think. When I think of my life, my habit, my habitual patterns, where and how I behave . Where and how I react, and counter react, when even become at the childhood, particularly. I begin to think where it is coming from. And that can definitely take you to right direction. I am not here to establish a previous life and I am not establish future life. But just wanted to give you a little way, how you can think. You may be able to find it or you may not be able to find it. (0.48:31.5) But it doesn’t matter. You will be open mind, will not be shut. Just because I didn’t know , that’s why it is not there. That’s not good reason. Number of things we did not know. Because of that we cannot say nothing has happened. We cannot say nothing has happen in the Oval Office. Just because we don’t know what had happen with the Monica Lewinsky. I am sorry. But believe me, I am a very strong Clinton’s supporter, okay? That’s is fun. Okay, so. Just because we don’t know doesn’t mean it did not take place. There are a lot of things like that, you know. So, one of the great persons over here. That one. Said Dharmakirti. I have not seen , therefore it is not there. It is not correct. So, you have to give the benefit of doubt. Because life continues. It is different. It is really continue. So, that’s what we talked about. Past life and we are talking about the present life, how impermanent , how fragile it is. So, that’s definite.

Now this is a little easier than the next point what I am going to talk to you. This point. Death is definite. We all, somehow we can accept. Because we keep on seeing people dying all the time. We also see, there is nobody who lives forever. We don’t see that. People dying all the time we see. So, it is easy, little easier for us to accept that we all are subject to dying. We going to die. Subject of death, you call it, right? Subject to death. I don’t know. Which is correct language? Subject to death, okay. But the question now next , point number two , is when. When? When am I going to die. Can any of us answer to ourselves? This is a question I like to throw and I want you to think. I want you to think . Should say, I want you to meditate. But I want you to think. Is there an answer? If so, what is it? And why? (0.52:25.6)

You know, Buddha said that with this four continents, Buddha talked about the whole existence as a whole universe , as Mount Meru in the middle, and the Southern Continent and the , what is it, the Western and Northern Continent and all these. That is a Hindu/Buddhist mythological , I don’t know , whether it is myth or true. I don’t know. Anyway in that, in that, they said if you are Northern Continent you live one thousand years. And a week before you die there will be some announcement come from the air and so and so is going to die and next week and this and that. So, we don’t have that. It may be true , it may be not. Maybe it is just mythological point. Who knows. That is not relevant to us. Our lives , wherever we are , with this continent or this existence. This human realm, we call it. In this , we don’t have definite. I am sure when the President Diana, oh sorry. Princess Diana and what these two guys. Jody? And when the went into, when they sat in that Mercedes , I am sure they don’t think they are going to die. They went for some thing else, remember? They planning to leave. Planning to get married. And they going to pick up the wedding ring, right? So, but. And then we all know what had happened. This is all. Each and everyone of our lives are like that. And even in this life itself. There is two or three reasons. Why? Even in this life. That life . That things that make our lives stronger and strengthening. Like food, medicine. And many of them, become cause of death, rather than cause of life. There is so many points , so many conditions can be right for us to die. Anyway, everywhere. It can pop out like a countless stars in the sky. It gets there. But , point we are living, life holding , is very little compare to point where we can lose a life. Conditions. Even the food can become poison. The medicine can become poison. So, if really look , the cause of death way over weighs the cause of living. Is it very grateful to life. We are very grateful e are alive. Whether you are nineties or sixteen, seventeen. Whatever it may be. We are very grateful that are in life. So when are we going to go. We never know. So, we never know. That is so important to remember. Can be tonight . Can be tomorrow. Can be years later. Can be months later. Can be weeks later. We never knows. So, therefore , do not waste precious life that we have. We have to pass a resolution , saying that I am not going to waste my life, my time and my opportunity. Right now, everything is in my hands. Whether I want to good future . Let’s say future, you may imagine and think future life. No, I am talking about future from tomorrow. Even from tonight. That is also future. We are at the present. The next minute is the future. So, everything like that. So, what going to happen the next , it depends on now. How we are going to do it. It is going to positive , it depends now. (0.57:53.8). If you are thinking the positiveness and positive nature, dharmic nature, good karma nature, it will continue. If you have the bad one here, it will be bad one next. That’s how it brings. Good brings good. Bad brings bad. That’s why your future is in your own hands. Nobody else’s hands. It is absolutely true. We go to the Lamas and says please pray for me. Please protect me in future. Please help me or to me , with the dakas and dakinis at the time of death, taking me to the pure lands with the banners, flowers and music and all these. We pray everyday, right? We pray everyday especially those who are saying the Vajrayogini or Heruka sadhana. We say that everyday. However, it depends in our hands. Whether that going to be or not going to be, depends on me. On me now, What I do. It is now that is important because it makes difference. So when don’t know when I am going to die, so you have to make a resolution . I am going to have positive, assurance build up now. That’s what you needed. That’s the reason why , when, is so important. Because of idea of living . Idea of permanent. It is very much with us. Though we will not accept . I know I am going die. I know I am impermanent. But where and how we function, we are strongly accepting permanent nature. We are strongly accepting , I lost one. I am sorry. What are we accepting. Permanent. Permanent living. And even though I die, way down there. Two hundred years later. So, these two points, are the point of death and dying to meditate. And I don’t mind adding up. How does people die. I told you. The body becomes unserviceable. The apartment collapse, the roofs. And no water, no heat, no cooling at all. So you have to get out. The same thing. The circulation stops. There is no water.

Coordination between the earth element and the individual losses. So the roof collapses. Really, physically we are built in on the basis of four or five elements. Doesn’t matter. Four or five elements. First is earth element. All this body, we have bones and flesh and all these are earth elements. It is earth within our body. Or you have liquid in the body. The blood , the pus , all of those , I am sorry I am bringing in some funny little things in here. But, all of those are the water element. Then we have heat. The digestive powers and all of those are the fire element. Then you have circulation. It is air element. So , earth , water, fire and the air. Each one of them doesn’t work. When each of them are unable to function properly. The balance of the elements to drop. When the balance of the elements drop, we get sick. (1.02: 50.3) That’s what happen. That’s how we get sick. Some times the balance to drop so much so that the earth element may not be able to function anymore. Because it is working too hard and couldn’t be able to do it or not working. That’s exactly what happen. When the earth element doesn’t function , then it is time for us to go. What will the individual, dying person will know? My earth element is not functioning. How do I know? Lot of things. I did not work last before. I see it well. Distant. Use to see very well the distance or near. After a little while my power of seeing has reduced so you put artificial power here. That’s sign number one. True. Then also , one of the great teacher of mine, not only mine, but a lot of people- Khabje Trijang Rimpoche. The Dalai Lama’s Junior Tutor, wrote a poetry when he was eleven. He said. He’s is learning the grammar, so he wrote first poem. The Tibetan letters , alphabets comes Ka Ka Ka Na. He add each letter starting with each alphabet. The first one is . It said , “ hey friends, the sign of death in the form of snow landed on your head” Grey hair. So, that’s the second signal. Then we have miracle ear. Right??All of those. Every day by day, month by month, year by year, changing the way we looked. How we looked. The physical appearance. These are the signals for us. And finally, finally when you come to the end, you begin to see a lot of mirage. Mirage. Like you driving in the dessert. You go and drive, you see a lot of water over there. When you getting near there is no water. Lot of mirage. And after wards , probably you see, you will not encounter anything but mirage. So why the mirage. Mirage is ,you know, not mirage but look what the mirage give. It is connected with the water, right? It looks like water outside. It is connected with water , so actually, earth element is signaling to the individual, thank you very much and goodbye. So, the water comes more powerful because earth begins to crack. Earth is cracking . If you are lifting like four people are lifting it is back up. And the second one started going, you get more weight, right? Just like that, earth signaling goodbye. So, we know it is , if you have bad eye and you are driving , three hours in the sunshine you see mirage. That’s not the point. The point is , even you are in your own home, even if your own bed, if you look around, begin to see a lot of mirage. That is the sign when you are dying, particularly . That is the sign when you ending the earth element. So the water comes more powerful.

And after a little while, you begin to see a smoky color. Like the room is filled up with smoke. Anybody smoking here or whatever. What’s happening? There is so much of smoke here. Really, sort of smoky thing you see. Some times we even see it even in our life when we are healthy , not dying we see that. That is the , some imbalance of the elements. It is the fire power , coming over the others. So, here, the water element is quitting . So, therefore, fire takes over. So you begin to see smoke, right? The smoke is the signal of the fire, right? Even some great teacher. Because there is smoke, there is bound to be fire. That the seagull standing there, sort of , there bound to be water. Likewise from the action of the individual we can understand whether it is good person or bad person. They didn’t said that. I made up that. They said whether it is a bodhisattva or not a bodhisattva . So anyway, I can make up that and say whether it is a good person or bad person, you will know from the action of the person. So, the smoke is the signal of the fire. So, it will be very smoky. (1.09:51.9)

Then the smoky , suddenly, sort of disappeared and become a little dark and as though of cigarette burning, through in the air in a dark room. Sort of a lot of little sparks around everywhere. You see that. That is the time the fire element sparking. Way of saying goodbye. And finally, then you, sort of becoming darkness in the room like if you turn off all the lights and we look here. It will be quite dark. But of you have a little lamp, you know those , some of those, I don’t see here but in India, there use to have a lot of those lamps that goes up tu, tu, tu. You know lights that goes up and down, sort of . Then it goes up, you get better light. When it goes down , you get a little darker. Let’s say if you put a candle light there . There is some wind blowing. So it will be flicker a little bit, comes up a little bit and flicker a little bit. Not looking at the candle light, you are looking at the reflection in the wall, you have that. Light coming , light going, coming . That sort of thing. When that is happening it is the sign that even the air element is dissolving to the consciousness. You call dissolve , it is nice way. Actually air also saying goodbye. (1.11:58.3)

After that, we perceived something very white. Very white thing. But this time , our external things all gone. Our consciousness already inside. Still can perceive things. What really happening in this moment, this moment, there is thing called indestructible drop . That is the semen from father and egg from mother, joined together, where we can begin all our physical things. It is the joining of the egg and semen, from parents. And that is called indestructible drop. It doesn’t open till you die. This is the time when it will open and it will separate. Because of that, you feel , so much whitish first because of the color of the essence from father. Is sort of very whitish thing. That is why the white. Follow by redness. Very reddish color. After that dark, black. So the shock of the separation of mind , which is so much use to it, living , in particular place. You suddenly gone. Darkness. Actual darkness itself is the actually death. And when you are in darkness, you begin feel suffocated. You begin to know, I want to get out of it. So the idea of getting out will become very strong. And that moment, you will leave the body. You begin to see some kind of grey , Michigan weather. Then the total thing will be reversed. Completely reversed to all the eight points that I talked you. Reversed back. Totally they reversed back. And then by the time you fully wake up. You will be in future life. There is a bardo in between that. It is not my subject to talk to you today. So, I am not talking to you about bardo. There is a bardo. Even if you wake up, you probably wake up in bardo level, rather than future life itself. Most of us, anyway. So that’s how, normally we die. With the exception of , sort of , accident and all these. And that will also have a very short period of all eight steps. Even though , accidental death. Even electrical shock. Even , in the movie, sometimes you see some kind of powerful person , they couldn’t beat him up and they throw him , some kind of electrical thing and eehh, right? Even if you go in that manner. Even if we go in that manner, we have all these eight different steps. So what does practitioners do? If you are a Vajrayana practitioner. Not in the sutra. If you are a Vajrayana practitioner, we try to recognize by imagining, meditating. And we try to recognize them. And what can you do if you recognize. If you recognize , you can think something better. It is so important , during the time of death, it is so peaceful. You don’t want anybody disturbing you. You don’t want anybody crying in front of you. Because the crying can draw your attention, yourattachment. You feeling sorry for child, or parents or friend or anything. If that happens, your peaceful mind, going ahs been disturbed. And people should not say what should I do with that. And what I should do after that. All these , when it is going, let the person go. Don’t hold it back. You cannot hold it back. And don’t think the person is dying on you. The poor fellow is dying, he is not dying on you. It is true. I mean , it is true. Really true. Don’t , he is not dying on you. Will definitely like to leave it. Live as long as we can. Nobody wants to die. So, it is the hopeless, helpless condition , the dying. So let it go. Let not suffer. Don’t hold it back. If you try to hold it back, what will happen is not only they will not be able to die in peaceful. It will also created negative thoughts within that individual , either attachment or angry or worry, or doubt or something. Which automatically brings a terrible karmic. It connects to another terrible karma. As I told you earlier when you die, you have IOU note here. Positive , negative book. So the mind, just immediately before death will be connecting and it is most chance to connect negative karma if you have negative thoughts. If you have positive thoughts, you going to connect karma. That’s the reason why you have to keep them at peaceful as possible. In Tibet, mostly Buddhist people. So , if somebody is dying so they will bring picture of Buddha or image of Buddha and the person show them . If the person going to die a couple of days, they put a Buddha image here and there. And that’s the reason why if the people looking at the Buddha , and die. There is a great hope. Buddha himself said , if you die , thinking about Buddha , and with the Buddha in mind, it will help. It is one of , not only help. Sort of , almost assure you that your next, immediate life will be good. So those great people , they can change it’s death into something else. Something else. They transform the ordinary death into extraordinary thing. This we are talking about great people. It is important for us, to bite what we can chew. Am I say right or it doesn’t . You should bite what we can chew. It is very important. So, therefore we should not be thinking of high level, emptiness or even bodhimind, and all these. Our mind is not going to be coming to that level. So, whatever is capable is individual . Depends how much mental training you have . And wherever you feel comfortable . In the level. Within you see freedom. Wherever you feel comfortable. Think in that line. Even nothing. Think about Buddha. Think about it. Think about dharma. Think about Sangha. Even think. Even if you think about God, that’s fine. Whether there is , what you call it, God on the hat. If you think about God, you think about the positiveness of the enlightened beings. So that will help. Particularly, people who are not so much in Buddhism or all of those. It is the Almighty or something that a lot of people accept. And even though you project only in that manner. On the other hand people who are receiving that identity is the enlightened beings. So those enlightened beings, for me, personally speaking , for me , there is no separation between Almighty, there is no separation between Buddha and Almighty. There is no separation between Guru and Buddha . There is no separation between Yidam and these deities and Buddha or God. So the receiving end. We are projecting because of our understanding and our knowledge. And our information and our , what you call it, we used to it. What do you call that? Our habits. (1.22:44.7) But, we received that identity, others, somebody receiving that. That enlightened beings. Even you think you were dead. It will help you, protect you. So the labels, what you think.

Just two days before, I had to go and see somebody. Jewel Heart member who is , whose mother is in the hospice care. And she asked me to go and I went there. So I started talking to her, on daughter. And suddenly she said, I can understand everything what you said. That was a surprise. So I talked to her. I thought about it. And the , she said “ I didn’t have much exposure in Buddhism” So only knows her daughter practiced and she is happy with that. So, I don’t want to present her Buddha in the last minute. She begin at first to be suspicious and doubt. And is that, what is it, why , you know. Things like that. You know, I learnt that lesson when Timothy Leary died. Alan called me the last minute, tried to hook me up with Timothy on telephone. So, I started talking to Timothy Leary , thinking about Buddha. I can understand that he is not getting it. And so, I quickly switch over to the space like, openness and beautiful , wonderful things. Later , on the telephone, he got and said “ Why and then why not”. Right, that’s how he died. Probably, why Buddha now. I don’t know who is why. So that I don’t want to talk to Buddha again. So, I used God. So, you are going to God’s space, where it is beautiful , nice , open space, where is free of all negatives, free of all pains. Open like space and go with that great , peaceful, wonderful, looking forward mind. And don’t about children and grand children and all these. That’s what I told her. I don’t know whether I have done service or disservice. I don’t know. Presumably I have done quite good. So. That’s the thing. So, like that. So, each and every one of us can do, if we train ourselves. If you visualize , you know at the end of those eight steps , which is going to be darkness. At the end of that you will have whitish. They call it , clear light of death. Whatever they call , doesn’t matter. These procedures will take place. Band before that procedure takes place, everything is in our control. Once the procedure begin, we have no control. So it is better to make sure everything right when it is in our control. So the idea here for the next two weeks, if you go roughly from the number 13 onwards up to 20, particularly at the death level. Death is definite. There is no certain time. Get some understanding. Let it have effect in you. Even if sometimes you little bit of scare. Don’t get angry with me. Some people may get upset. I never worry but this fellow told me that and I begin to worry about it. It is terrible. Some people may say that. But don’t . It is the reality. By not , by thinking , it did not develop. It is there. It is better to be afraid now than later because it situation is in our hands. We can handle it. There is a way, there is a means. There is definitely ways and means of handling it, which we completely forward there. So, I like to close her, I don’t know what time is it. It is 9.30 only. I am sorry. So, I would like to close there and the next time, when I am here. Which date is it? 26. And that’s going to be. You better go. It is 9.30 .What am talking now. Which date is it? 26? Thursday 26th the Tibetan New Year’s eve. So, I try to cancel it , but couldn’t cancel . So, I will be here. So, I will be here. We will be talking, continuing and what can help at the time of death. That is going to be the subject to that day. And then followed by. When is that Tibetan House thing. March 6 and 7, I was asked to. Friday night, I was asked to speak for spiritual path dealing with everyday life. So, in Tibet House in open centre. So, if you people want to come, you are welcome. I believe you have to buy tickets. They will charged that. And also Saturday there is a workshop. I don’t there is a Sunday. Saturday workshop. I don’t know, what workshop is it. Do you know? (1.30: 23.9) It is at the open centre. I don’t know what is the subject.
