Last week we did a very important Yoga, Kriya Yoga and it was rather profound and, and it was very nice. So today you are here for Karma and all are welcome. 0:00:59.5 Karma as I mentioned to you last night, believe me but what when you take refuge in Buddha, Dharma and Sangha, then just taking refuge is not enough. You have to follow the positive and the negative advices that Buddha gives. 0:01:53.1 And as you know negative advices will tell you to avoid this, this, this and positive advices will tell you follow this, this, this….0:02:30.6 and the basis of this is Karma. And also following the karma and understanding and following karma is very important. And the essence of Dharma practice really is following the karma. As many times I mentioned to you the name for Dharma in least in Tibetan, it is chur, the chur is the past tense of cho…which is cho with ulo with s is the past tense of cho, no umla…well, there us umla…so it’s sort of cho umla past tense of that which means correction. Correcting our activities that are influenced by negative emotions or actions and correcting that change into new positive action or emotion influence activities. So real Dharma means correct karma. 0:05:13.8
Buddha Shakyamuni said, in his Buddhism, the true refuge is Dharma. And that is following the karmic thing probably. And also it is necessary to develop faith in karma and it is easy too. Because we will see to ourselves that when you do something good, you get good results. When we do something bad, you get bad results which we see ourselves in our life again and again, so if you are an intelligent person and if you know what you are doing, then it is easy to develop faith in karma. 0:07:28.5. It is direct in our life, it is direct in other peoples life we can see it. But, you know developing faith in Buddha or developing faith in guru in yidam are difficult because we don’t have direct contact or maybe we do but we don’t know. But faith is easy because it is happening in our life everyday if we pay attention. 0:08:36.3. If we don’t have faith in karma, then the difficulty will be very difficult for us to avoid small negative actions and very difficult to build small positive actions because we are not so sure if these little things are going to bother us or not. If this little thing is going to activate us so much or not and that’s why…when you don't have faith in karma then the result of that we begin to ignore. 0:09:49.0. Even for our own dharma practice and saying little mantra or meditating little thing here and there or gathering together, and we consider that might not be so important because I have nothing more to learn nothing new to pick up, and umm, and ah, I have done that so many times and so these are the ignoring the activities of dharma. These are the indications that may not have a proper trust of faith in karma. 0:11:30.7.
If we don't follow the karma properly, so many learned great scholars and even great yogis did fall in the lower realm and not only in the lower realm but hell realm. 0:12:22.4. Atisha’s lama - Awadhuti- is the one when Atisha tried to leave home and he couldn’t get the parents to permit and went to see……crazy people together and they call it yoga’s, yogini’s and 20 of them..and he’s behaving like them aso finally Atisha’s parents permitted him to go to Dharma so that was ….0:13:29.7 while crossing over a bridge in their land and Lama Awadhuti told Atisha said look, if one is not careful with their karma, such a great well known person like so and so, yogi so and so are down here in the hell realm. So then Atisha asked Lama Awadhuti until what time or level do I have to follow the karma? 0:14:43.8 Awadhuti says until you have crushed your ego grasping. So, although Atisha says ego grasping , smashing ego grasping that is seeing emptiness, that is the 3rd part of seeing but Karma is such even Buddhas always become a Buddha because it’s their karmic result. So, karma is such that we have to follow all the time, even if you are fully enlightened. 0:16:10.0. You know these great Ralazawa, the one of the lineage in Tibet…Rahalazawa is very what shall we say, it is supposed to, some kind of a ??? it came out his character is such, I don’t want to say bully person, such a proud, very proud of himself and Ralazawa is supposed to wear extremely good quality dresses. Although he dresses like a monk, but really, real extreme expensive dress. And also not a single touch of dust, always properly dusted, well groomed, almost you know, this is funny. But you know before when I saw Saddam Hussein on television, every hair has been totally combed and the beard has been totally cut and nice, he himself was a ugly person but other than that, the best they could do they have done. Sorry! Always reminding me of Ralazawa, everything tip top his hair is combed nicely- his suit tie occasion or military uniform whatever. There are some Lamas that do that…Toonpa Rinpoche is like that. It always reminds me of Ralazawa. 0:19:05.0. Not only he dresses such a way, he behaves such a way. Anyone who challenges him or something, he was just go like there.? 0:20:24.5 And ah, he wears monks robe and he had a consort and all that so one of the Kadampa lama, famous Kadampa Geshe, asked him, you do whatever you do, you are great. No challenge. But giving a monk vow to a lay person while you are not observing your own monk vow, this is a great insult to Buddha Dharma, so please don’t do it. 0:21:31.5. So Ralazawa told him how dare you tell me such a thing. If I don’t destroy you within 7 days then don’t call me Ralazawa. So many Kadampa Lamas got together, they were a little worried, because he is so powerful so they got together, in the monastery they collected printed works of the Buddha and put them around and they kept on saying the Heart Sutra. 0:22:52.0.
And one day passed, nothing happened, two three…everyone thinks they are hoping they are okay. On the 7th day night, about the 11th hour, a fly direct came through. 0:23:32.3 And hi…and that’s the end of it..? Likewise, Ralazawa challenged 13 of the great beings, including the son of Marpalozawa. Marpalowsaze has some teaching called “Entering in Life in Body” meaning you know you transfer your consciousness into somebody's else's body and function continuously. 0:24:52.0 So that is known as “port…” transforming the consciousness within another person's body. And Ralazawa is determined to discontinue that for the benefit of mankind. So the Marpa won't listen. Marpa is the founder of the Kagyu tradition. And he becomes the responsibility of his only son Dharmadoti. And Marpa knew there was a threat in Dharmadoti’s life and Marpa made Milarepa responsible for looking after Dharmadoti. and make Dharmadoti to sit in the retreat. And then suddenly this is manifested, suddenly there are so many people going through this where he is retreating, in the cave, in the little retreat house. so many people are going. He came out and said where are you people going? What’s going on? Please from here to another mile or so, there is a great festival going, never will there be before so all young old you. why are you not going?/ 0:27:24.3 hundreds of them going…10 or 15 at the most but hundreds of them are saying that so, Marpa’s son, they didn’t listen to Marapas advice . So Milarpa said don't go! …..he said if you go, I will hold your horses, I will hold your horses bridle. So Milarapea is walking while holding the thing and the horse goes and suddenly like 40 or 50 birds suddenly flew up and the horse got frightened and lost, Milarepa couldn’t hold the horse anymore and he died. 0:28:45.7 At that moment, whatever the Ralazawa had done something that within the seven days…they could not find any single dead body. 0:29:45.9 so the …dharmadots mother told …you are now in a meditative state and I am hevajra and you transfer my consciousness into my body which he refused, he wouldn’t do. 0:30:31.6 but then they found somewhere a little pigeon bird so his consciousness transferred to the pigeon. And that pigeon flew to India. And there are so many volumes of work after that pigeon spoke on…? it’s called…?? The Blue Neck Bird story, so that is huge, it even becomes Indian Literature. 0:31:36.8. So Ralasowa, he brag, he bragged, including Dhamar…I destroyed 13 highly developed Bodhisattvas. I will not go to hell realm, this is my special. Actually Ralazowa died while magical power competing with another Lama called Warazawa. So they are challenging and wara…could not challenge dharmaw.. at all. so suddenly the request to pray has come to all those lamas that ….Lama Rawa passed away yesterday or something and came to the request for prayer. 0:33:33.4 So whenever they request prayer they give certain gifts like that so Rawaza…..so thought lama…died, so while he’s relaxing then…got him. And then while he’s going through Bardo, …..Bardo in Yamataka form, he poke Lamazawa.. so this is the Tibetans have a saying “xxxxxxx”, 0:34:48.3 means the power of lama destroy all but lamazawa destroy ralazawa…..but the thing is this..lama…after passing away did go to hell realm. So even such a powerful really highly like living Buddha to that level also has to visit hell realm. This is interesting…lama. stay there so it’s like a ball, a basketball or football when you hit on the ground….just like that Lama….did go to hell…karma but didn’t stay because he’s enlightened. So, even person like ralazawa but for karma they have to. Buddha have said, “xxxxxxxs” 0:36:55.9 you can never understand and tell about the karma and it’s result even great Bodhisattvas do suffer in hell realm non-voluntarily. 0:37:19.7 You know the Buddha’s cousin is equally great beings if one of the most learned Indian scholar at that time, the Buddha’s cousin, even then he has to go through to the hell realm. So, it is even though you think you are great but if you don’t honor your karma that is very, very difficult. 0:38:30.4
So you have to honor, last night I told you the ladies fly but later they..and then even in that back in Tibet in the 13 or 1400 there are a number of great monks who are highly developed, great monks who are travelling from one retreat area to another retreat area in summer, they have to go through boat in the water, they have to go through boat in the water and someboat turned upside down. And so all these monks are going to lose in the water and there are highly developed monks so what they did is, they have a little round cushion and each one of them put their cushion on the river and sat cross legged and got across the river. These are the …college monks…0:40:39.3 And the person who is in charge of the in that particular monastery was another great being so he somehow came before them to the other side of the river and while they were crossing the river he was sitting like this and the disciplined guy was sitting like this. in their rule, when the disciplinary guy sits like this, you’re out 0:41:56.4 and so all of them went down the river like that one after another and since then, they the upper tantra college started because the law is so tight, the rules are so tight it’s so much so the founder of the upper tantra college he himself was sitting on the cushion round coming up….0:43:02.2 he was in another village, and there was a threat of water in Lhasa city at that time, the ruler of Tibet ordered him to come and stop the water. So when the order came, he was reading Tantra, the Tantra word at that time said, “while walking over the river” so he got the order that you have to come to Lhasa and stop the flood. Alright, it says….so that’s what I do, I will put my cushion on the river and….and the ruler after that say whatever you want here and he said he would like to have this Ramachara Temple where the Buddha….and he formed the xxxmonastery the Upper Tantra College. You know I told you this Geshe… rinpoche from Goom, he was also sitting in the gathering and started catching fire here so the disciplined guy …laughing….So you know compare with those days where I absolutely….let’s have coffee. Okay, is there coffee? hahahaah
