Afternoon session. Open Center.
Ok then. About anger.
By purifying the negativity of anger, we are supposed to transform. Our physical form itself is supposed to be transformed Supposed to be. The negativity of anger, what happens is it becomes, the physical form becomes pure, clear of anger. It becomes pure. Don’t ask me how. I’m going to go through and explain it. So physical form becomes pure and by becoming that, you obtain the one kind of wisdom.
There are 5 kinds of wisdom and so 5 kinds of wisdom -- 5 kinds of Buddha. Buddha Vairochana they call it, 0:03:01-0:03:22 see in the sand mandala there are 5 colors in
Avalokiteshvara sand mandala we saw this morning. White is Buddha Vairochana. There’s white, red, yellow etc.
White is Buddha Vairochana, Buddha Vairochana is white in color. Vairochana they call it.
What happens is, 5 different kinds of Buddha, the
wisdom is there are so many kinds of Buddha — Eastern Buddha, Western Buddha, Northern Buddha, Southern Buddha — how do you separate? They are all the same enlightened but they have different aspects of identity
Sure they do — one is blue, one is white whatever it is. So when you see separate aspects of identity, you will also say where is it coming from? And then, 1, it comes from the physical form which we have which has been purified and one of those neuroses, 5 different neuroses, That neurosis has been purified.
We have 5 different neuroses, which have been purified. They all become wisdom when purified and the physical form is pure.
How are the 5 Buddhas divided? If I begin to talk about that , you will be disappointed because 0:05:19.6_________
0:05:43.6
0:06.25 In the mandala, all of them are manifestations of one Buddha. When you become a buddha, you become one buddha. Not only that, there’s retinue, retinue. Mandala is space with all aspects
So whatever work we do earlier. We talk about purification. We talk about accumulation of merit and we talk about good karma. Didn’t we talk about good karma before? Virtue? 0:07:48.7 So anyway, whatever it is, each one of them is actualized, materialized to become something part of them out of you through the aggregates of consciousness of enlightened society so it all yourself and all your own merit and wisdom____ that’s what it 0:08:13.0
So that’s what it is. All you. That’s why in traditional Tibetan Buddhism they will tell you pervasiveness of a _________________0:08:38.3 blah blah blah they talk, that’s the whole idea of the pervasiveness
because of the whole mandala, positive karma accumulated by each and every individual through the power of contemplation. These are materialized as Buddha as retinue, as mandala, as purity, as base, as all that.
0:09:11.5
That is why ____________0:09:24.3 each and every one of them is the manifestation _______________as well as the physical 0:10:05.0. That is all how they function
So in reality, ,according to different color, with or without consort, whatever
0:10:48.2street noise
Five different forms,0:11:27.5 the 5 different colors, each one of them has become pure mind. That mind is the pure part of the neurosis. It becomes the pure
mind. The 5 neuroses, 0:11:58.2 the 5 emotions. That’s what it is.
Another question, asked by an individual, is how is it really Buddha. Is it some kind of formless, a void, a moving energy 0:12:42.5 You know what I mean? Thinking in that way. The idea of that is
the idea of a formless, a void, energy movement as Buddha is totally wrong. 0:13:13.4
Because the mind of the Buddha is the most lucid mind. That is why.0:13:56.2 Most clear, pure, free of all delusions, free of all obstacles, knowing everything simultaneously, the past, present and the future, too, that’s why its called 0:14:13.8___emerging?______ mind. 0:14:40.0 Not only is it one body, not only is it 3 bodies, not only is it 5 bodies, it has 3 different manifestation bodies available simultaneously, continuously everywhere, everywhere, every part available to you.
So, in principle 3 buddhas, or 5 buddhas because of the 5 physical points, because of the 5 neuroses combined all together becoming pure 0:15:28.4_____________ that’s why
5 different forms. Okay?
0:15:55.9 So, any more questions? _________________________
0:16:38.9 What are the 5 neuroses? I hope I will name them____________ we learned of one this morning which is anger. I believe the second one is the attachment. Third one is the miserliness and the pride combined together and fourth one is jealousy and the fifth one is ignorance. Miserliness and pride go together, and attachment is alone and jealousy is one and ignorance.
Audience: They are all ignorance
Rimpoche: I’m not sure. They all come from ignorance ___________________
Audience: That’s what I meant.
talking about understanding the picture from the morning 0:18:50.9
________________________________
0:18:58.9 That is one kind of looking at it, and then there’s ______________________0:19:11.7 and then they become purified and then _____________________That’s the main point.0:19:30.8
Negative emotions that become purified. If that’s not difficult that the energy cannot 0:19:30.4 That’s the main point. So what happens is each and every one of the negativities become pure. Become a pure mind -- wisdom 0:19:47.0 from the ignorance, wisdom And so capable of an independent mind and each one of those minds combines with physical form. Combined together they have form. So they call them kayas or ] the forms or the physical purities.
That’s why called ________________ and all this and 8 buddhas and 5 buddhas and 10 buddhas because divided into ________________ and we’re talking about 0:20:40.4 parts of Buddha exactly that become physical form. So when we become Buddha we will be able to function in that way. So that’s why - that’s the whole idea. 0:20:58.8
That’s why when you reach to the enlightened level, it becomes absolutely pure, absolutely no limit --limitless. 0:21:06. No limit manifestation consciousness understanding lucid, all of them.
Okay? Any problem?
Audience:: If ignorance becomes wisdom, attachment becomes compassion, jealousy becomes…
Rimpoche: They all become wisdom. Mirror-like wisdom, discriminating wisdom, ___________ wisdom and all this 0:21:58.2 There are five—I’m searching in the book — There are 5 different wisdoms. They’re talking 5. There are a hundred different wisdoms. They talk hundreds, thousands. Each one of them has divisions. That’s what it is.
In principle, what do we do? Basically, in our level, what do we really have right now is those negative neuroses we have. We definitely have to get rid of them either one by one or collectively together.0:22:48.8 And, recommended is collectively together to remove it.
However, it is extremely difficult, even to see it within you if you try to do collectively together. It’s very hard to see it. It is sometimes nice to do with each and every individual. Five different labels, or 8 different labels or something.
So now the next is attachment. We have done the anger part. And I’m very happy that we covered the anger for the angry people __________________0:23:59.1 So, all right?
0:24:10.7In any event, what is attachment? What is difference between love and attachment? ____________________ between attachment and love 0:24:39.1. What is the line - this is attachment, this is love?
What is the simple division should be properly labeled in your own mind. People clean up attachment as love. The difference between attachment and love should be labeled.
They should be.
People are very fond of love. The moment you say ”love”, a lot of people get excited. They get into some kind of ecstasy or some kind of _____________ influence, and ________________0:25:44.4
Is it attachment or pure love. What is it? You have to think. And you have to find out if its love.
We all like to think we have pure love rather than attachment. We all like to. But if you analyze it properly, you find a lot of them is attachment, rather than pure love.
Pure love ________________________, attachment can change, it could get ugly 0:26:54.6. But at the beginning level you will not find out, however. You will not be able to figure it out. You think that something wonderful can happen, and you know the _________
and six months later, so much becomes __________ or whatever it is, so 0:27:34.0 at that moment in that mind, when you are first meeting that person what you feel, how you feel, how you feel -- constantly watch that mind and then remember that, and when you encounter that mind when you have the next opportunity remember that, then you make sure it doesn’t follow the same kind of pattern. You know what I mean?
So this is attachment coming out as love, appearing to you as a fun, fantastic, wonderful thing, and, at that moment everything whatever that person does, nothing is wrong. So this is the attachment blinding people, not being able to see the real thing, whatever it is.
And we may view that as some kind of beautiful, normal wonderful thing and you enter your own___________________0:28:53.6 it is going to bring you equanimity. Chances are there are no way they are real love0:29:10.3.
And maybe it is love at that moment and that the other factors have not yet come out to blunt that into______
Maybe it is pure love at that moment and the other control issues have come out that blind you. Why do you have to think on that? Some of you say, you don’t have to think on that—I know it, I get it. But you really have to think, you really need to think for the reasons to make sure that it is pure love and also when you come and encounter with the next phase comes, even then you have to make sure nothing will__________. Even if its pure love 0:30:17.7
Audience: I have a question
Rimpoche: I’m not sure I have an answer, but go ahead
Audience: You said that purity is not something that comes from pure love
Rimpoche: Pure love should not cause purity
Audience: I can imagine how the pure love that I have for my daughter, and I’m thinking of one in particular, how that love causes me great pain and suffering because I see what she does which I know are harmful and everything. I suffer and end in pain because I love her and because I respect her autonomy and her own intentionality and I’m careful not to impose my will on her.
Audience: When real love cause us to suffer and be in pain and is being in pain an indicator or whether its pure love?
Rimpoche: As I told you earlier, 0:31:40.0 __________________ .If you look at it very carefully in that, the change, the love that you had might be two different things, not might be, it is. Love like that you have may create another emotion. You wanted for her this, and this and that and this and that
Audience: But when you have compassion, aren’t you informed with pain? To feel deep compassion, is to feel the wholeness
Rimpoche: Why are you pushing? It’s a good thing, pushing to be a good person not in a bad way. Yes and no, compassion without touch, out of touch is terrible. I’m not sure you have to feel the pain.
Compassion is painful-- I don’t think so.0:33:23.8 Compassion is the mind with the really strongly wishing the individual to be free from those pains they are experiencing. That is compassion.
Compassion is known as the feel for others, probably not. That is big question, I don’t know. Probably not, but yet still we should not be out of touch. 0:34:02.1 You are asking very important questions
Likewise, love too. What is really love? Love and compassion is one mind -one mind with 2 different aspects. Focus is one, mind is one, with 2 different aspects. I actually had an opportunity to ask these questions to my late master Ling Rinpoche, the senior tutor to the Dalai Lama____0:35:08.1
Normally this Tibetan etiquette normally doesn’t ask direct questions in that way.______________having_____dinner or lunch, I don’t remember now. Eating together, and then_____________very American style of asking questions. What is all this love and compassion all about it? In that manner. In that manner.
He picked up _________________ this is love and turned around this is compassion. So meaning it’s one mind, different sides. One mind with two different aspects. One aspect is the wishing to be free of the pain of suffering, whether suffering suffering, or changing suffering or even pervasive suffering. That is the compassion aspect. 0:36:39.9
The love aspect is bringing them joy, and have joy all the time. That is the love. The danger — in order to have joy — you provide them, and you struggle you fight to the particular method of bringing joy to the person and remember that is the love. It is the _________to be___________________0:37:23.1 That’s how it works, right?
That’s how it is. So, ______love/compassion — get away from that
Audience: I think your question — I have a comment. I had a question about the whole thing around attachment and love. The whole situation, anger, attachment, all of them, negativities that we are trying to overcome, I kind of ask myself, they all center on wanting something from other human beings or, for that matter, lesser beings. Thinking that someone else, some other being will deliver my own happiness. In my mind, that’s where the problem is. I have to keep finding my own happiness, but I keep trying to get things from people or they are trying to get things from me. Of course, I can get some things, but I can’t really. I think that something central has to --kind of this time I feel that that is just limited . You know, something that would make everything work, some action. I don’t know how to frame the question
RImpoche: I don’t know either.
Audience: I don’t know where to start — demanding anything from anyone.
RImpoche: I don’t know _________________demanding ____0:39:57.4___________________________0:40:12.5 You tell them you’re____________________________ “do that right now”. You do this all the time, but ____________________0:40:52.7___________________________________________ I don’t have the answer, all right? 0:41:18.0
________________________I’m not sure.______________________________________________________0:41:49.7___________________________________________________0:42:18.9
the truth is one very senior lama, ____________________ came to see me, and _______________________0:42:38.6-___________ and there’s a number of people, a mean a number, 20 or more, following him________________________Massachusetts._____________ He came over to Ann Arbor “How wonderful the west is” and I wonder what is all this about I like to talk to younger Tibetans There are 4 of them 0:43:36.9_____________________________0:44:16.4 and I said what do you think?” and one of them_________he’s a nice guy,0:44:41.7_________________________________
____________________________________________________traffic noise_________________________________________________________0:46:26.6
Rimpoche: What does purification do? That is the real point. I think that the purification is very strong and effective. What happens is the ? alteration of the karma. It really changes ________negative to positive -- it is changing to be better and better and better, and maybe even change negative to neutral level and 0:48:44.8 then effort put in on antidote action ___________ because purification is definitely something happening. ___________________________traffic noise
Probably not, but it _________energy or some kind of _______________mental kind of thing or effect it some kind of easier to. That’s what happens that ___________0:50:01.3
We don’t know exactly how it works which is a problem, but it is the Buddha who said that negative karma is created by negative action but it is also Buddha who said if you create negative karma it can be purified.
So now, attachment and love. 0:51:03.4 I don’t really have much to say, but one thing I would like to say— pure love. Pure love is basically appreciation of what it is and wishing them joy. Are you with me?
Pure love is appreciating them and wanting for them a happy moment. Pure love is that. If the love that we have is not so much appreciating but its more desire.
Are you with me? I wanted that. Then that’s not appreciating. That’s not pure love, it’s my desire .“I want it”” I would like to have” “Its mine” ”mine,” “mine alone. “”Nobody else can have it” You know, __0:52:23.7 you go _______________0:52:38.7 and love is not a kind of attachment.
Earlier I told you, because I put it there, lying there that this is right and this is wrong. That’s what I want to ___________cough 0:52:49.4 that is word only, when you leave it there, when it comes to your mind, that is something you have to see. You have to know, you have to find out and then you correct it. I’m not sure what it is, a word there. Then you have to — you have the information and knowledge that is ______0:53:15.0
RIght? Right? Did you have _________________?0:53:25.0
Audience: My feeling of love is really one of appreciation whereas that person or that event that occurs could really come about because I have what it is given , because I’m filled with what it is that I have been offered and its like nourishment and I just incorporate it. Attachment is where it’s almost right and I’m going to admit it as exactly right because it didn’t or it’s right but its precarious. I don’t yet have what I want from it, I don’t have the acknowledgement I want from it. There’s some action that I have to do to try and get that, and that’s where I see the attachment is
Rinpoche: I don’t know what to comment. Basically, that’s what it is, truly. Love is really pure, nice ________0:54:45.7 because it is love.
Audience: Rimpoche, _______________________ (echo)0:55:15.5
Rimpoche: Attachment and love I’m not sure of ____________, I doubt it
Audience: unintell —needing, wanting 0:55:36.3
Rimpoche: Needing, wanting is love that becomes ——— demanding, controlling, _____________________0:55:52.8
____________________________________________________________________0:56:11.1
With time there’s always the possibility of bringing time to the perfect level. What is perfect is the real question. ___________________________________________________0:56:29.9 I believe that is fair.
Attachment, love is a big question. I believe my job here is to raise the question and put that in your mind and then your job is to sort it out. _________________0:57:02.6
________________ examples._________ All right then is put it in your mind and sort it out by yourself is your job. That is the job description.
0:57:26.8 Carole?
Carole: On the — what you do with this attachment , thats one of the 5 ___ we were talking about and we were talking about anger and what you can do with it, like one of the solutions is love and compassion, but then you went over those 5 other things. Is the transform and that is what you’re doing to all of these? That’s what you are trying to do?
Rimpoche: I told you earlier toldearlier___________0:58:07.9 ___________ You always think purification.
Audience: And then attachment is when we say “mine”, “mine alone, no body else can have it”. But when you put it that way, if I show up with some woman to a party, and I don’t want her to dance with any other men and I don’t want her to _______ to other men, there’s a certain ________________ that I’m a good natured slob, who knows what’s going to happen. I don’t know if its mine___________________________
Rimpoche: You are_________________0:59:39.6
___cross talk1:00:18.0
Audience______1:00:37.0 fear
Rimpoche: Fear. Verytrue. The question of how confused purification______________1:00:53.7 not like this exactly.
But what happens when you bring purification — when you focus on purification. Constantly, sometimes you get a dream and that is clear indication that purification is working1:02:12.1 It is very simple like a______ washing over you, very strange thing coming out of your body and getting out of _______.You also get appearance of ______________getting out of there and all these things.
These are the purification. You feel better, and that’s also ______________1:02:51.1 And what happens, what really happens is things that you cannot understand, you understand better. _______1:03:06.2 that’s the real ______________1:03:30.5
And how long you do the purification is until you get those. That’s what it is. The real sign is better understanding, better development._______1:04:03.2 even reading ___________I probably _________________ purification ______________
Audience: That’s what I’m asking you again, you just reviewed how purification takes part in meditation and concentration meditation and analysis? Can you say anything?
Rimpoche: There are two ways. One, concentration, analyzing concentration ought to be basic fundamental. I mentioned earlier. And then there’s like the ABCD business here1:04:56.0Right? Did you hear that? That’s how you do1:04:59.0i t. That is
___1:05:07.5___What I am saying is how you will know. That’s what I’m telling you ____________coughing_______________________We have that conversation. We’re regretting and non-repeating and antidote and provide combine them together function by yourself 1:05:39.8 is the real way of doing it.
And then we even try to link them up by providing antidote after antidote using visualization is what it is_________ I believe that is _________right? 1:06:11.3
Audience: So this morning you talked about the accumulation of merit.
Rinpoche: That’s right_1:06:23.2 So that’s what it is.
Audience: So in my notes, we have the 5 wisdoms which, wrote, the 5 neuroses turn into the 5 wisdoms, and so attachment turns into the wisdom of love?
Rimpoche: I don’t really call it wisdom of love.
Audience: But love— attachment into love.
Rimpoche: Yes. Actually its true but we don’t call it the wisdom of love but it’s just really true. The attachment turns into love, Really true. That’s absolutely true.
Audience: What about anger — you can turn anger into love?
Rimpoche: Compassion, yes. Attachment really turns into pure love. That is really true. The stronger the attachment you have, the purer the love it will be 1:07:33.5 ___________
Audience: So pride becomes generosity? Miserliness becomes generosity?
Rimpoche: Yeah. Miserliness becomes generosity and (Break)1:07:53.8
1:08:33.0
Okay now, let us begin with again the purification of attachment very similar _______________ Looking at the ________ attachment, anger very similar_, turns to jealousy and pride_________1:09:29.9 because wisdom of pride. Pride is another thing. In normal Western culture they teach you ___________
Audience: Pride is something to be proud of
Rimpoche: But in Buddhism, pride is a problem.
Audience: It’s the cardinal sin, pride. Pride in Christianity is a cardinal sin 1:10:02.5
Rimpoche: It is a problem when it comes to Buddhism. __ the reason why it is a cardinal sin
Audience: There are 7 deadly sins, ________________________
Audience: From a Buddhist perspective, because it’s egocentric nature?
Rimpoche: I’m supposed to answer. (Laughter.) Please don’t do my thing
Audience: Impossible
Rimpoche: I don’t know why the Buddhist is because— very simple — because the explanation— if you are really very proud, proud, you probably are blocked from _________. It sort of becomes a big obstacle for you to learn. To be open__________(?)I know I know that____1:11:29.1_________thinking I know better than you do__________
And in Buddhism they look at it as an obstacle. You need to be open-minded and it is an obstacle to getting good information, and by being proud is an obstacle to you to be developed, to your good development , to be a good person, to be a nice, kind person should not have so much ego. As I told you this morning, there are 5 ________ on a cloudy ________________
In this case, the earlier Tibetan teachers would give us two examples. One example is the - when spring comes, which part becomes green first? The tip of the snow mountain or the valley under it? Which becomes green first?
That is one example and then another example, the weed stalk, each stalk has no ____________single and straight_ bending down. These are the two examples for pride 1:13:20.0 as problem for the individual, particularly against love
Audience: Against what?
Rimpoche: the information coming through. It is the _________ of open mind. And you think you’re going to be better than everybody else You think you are_______ nobody can talk to you because “I know already” even though_______________. You look down on everybody 1:14:02.3_____The lion and the snow mountain__ that’s how it is. That is the manner1:14:30.6
These are the reasons why pride is a problem. Because pride is so —might not be negative at all. Might not be negative at all. Might not be because you are not harming anybody ____ But pride can be negative because it ____ and pride is, negative or not. Not really sure. I shouldn’t say_____________1:15:12.8___ But I’m not sure. But is obstacle 1:15:31.1________________Might not be negative at all, ________in terms of negative karma, but it blocks opportunity for you to be developed. It obstructs generosity. It is harmful to you from a spiritual point of view Not really sure if it is________
Audience: unintelligible 1:16:32.5
Rimpoche: I don’t know, but I’m talking about pride here. So
Audience: ___________
Rimpoche:_______________Pride is wrong. If I’m not sure if it is negative, ___________________to create negative karma, _______________not negative like killing someone or lying or ______________or __________somebody1:17:26.6______________
Audience:____________ It harms you
Rimpoche: Yes. I said it’s a block Its an obstacle. Its a block It’s block for you to absorb information It blocks ___to develop. ______With a lot of pride _______its a big problem to develop. It
cannot ____________________1:18:21.4
Audience: Like the pride stops you from ______. In my logical mind thinking I know, when I don’t know something but ______no matter what’s going on.
Rimpoche: Yeah. Exactly. Its a problem_________________ Proud or not proud you’re still alive alive____________1:18:56.0 You are not paying attention __ .So it might not be negative by its own nature, sort of like stinginess. I’m not sure if it hurts someone or not_________________1:19:24.4 _________ but takes away ___opportunity to develop ______that’s _____________________anger, hurting somebody else.
Okay._____________________________
Audience: ____________________Charlie Rose?
Rimpoche: _________ My virtue is created because ______previously ________________it is - My virtue is created by nature — it is created because of its nature. In the sense— if generosity is the cause of plentiness, for instance, having a lot, it is —all of this because anything1:20:56._________because this _________________ and the stinginess blocks the _______. So it is interesting for the __________but my virtue is a (?) negativity but it is definitely ______________
Audience: Earlier you had said in connection with samsara that
Rimpoche: Always a connection with ________. It thrives. It wants the individual to be generous and even you share something you only share for the sake of me and what you get and ____________you don’t get _________if there’s _____________
There’s always a link. There’s a connection between attachment and pride, anger and pride, all of those. All of them are interconnected. Very much interconnected. They are all sort of related together, it is method of ________All this negative is all together and _____________________1:22:55.1
Any positive too, there is possibility — very much interconnected …
Audience; Domino effect kind of thing
Rimpoche: Yes, but not in an endless loop, they don’t connect in that way but you could easily do it.
Audience: What is the Tibetan word for generosity?
1:24:26.0 Rimpoche: Temba (?) _______(Tibetan).In the Tibetan they say generosity is the wish-fulfilling jewel for sentient beings.
__________________(Tibetan) 1:24:28.9 It is always the best for what is _______________1:24:42.9 cut the stinginess (?)
Each of them has qualities that____________________
Then we have to work with attachment, pride — put them together for purification. the force of the process — the absolute true process of transforming. Did I mention that _? The actual true source of problems is transforming the, what do we call it, clear light. Clear light. Are you with me?
1:25:27.7 There’s two types of clear light. One basic, fundamental foundational, basic normal clear light and one extraordinary clear light. Basic normal clear light is very focused concentrated subtle mind free of all other attractions which comes as a stage of dying— dying stage. That state. Dying and death stage which is free of all other obstructions. Totally Very subtle mind to focus. Example is the sexually — during the sex period you don’t want to think all other things. Right? You don’t want to watch a movie.
1:26:58.9 Anyway, that is the closest we can recognize is the most focused, no distance, nothing is ______and that process, at that level, is free of all gross attention. So the mind goes very subtle _____truly subtle. Whatever you focus ____one.
You know what I mean? 1:27:42.1______Really, really focused and that is the closest example that we can bring to our ordinary human experience is the time and state when gross mind becomes subtle mind.
That is the ordinary clear light state, but it can be extraordinary if some things happen in the individual without dying through a certain process A certain way of accumulating all our energies into a certain subtle focus channel. Are you with me?
In that period, individual can withdraw, retreat is the real word, retreat completely from all other gross attractions, attention, everything and focused completely on the nature of reality itself. Completely.1:29:30.8 and absorbed completely in that. And that is extraordinary path..
And you put all these process__________________or you will never _____________ truly at that moment. And when you rise from there and you rise as the
extraordinary____That’s what it is.
That is the true process, the true transforming process which we cannot do right now. We neither have the power nor do we have the capability even. Are you with me?1:30:32.4
Audience: You said that ______________right now.
RImpoche: Right now, no.
Literally. ______ we can do it later, not right now. The condition after we rise — pure place, pure companions — but later. The conditions haven’t become fully ripe. That is the only — a lot of people raise questions about spiritual reality and sexual reality, and I don’t see any connection besides this. ________ anymore.
I told you people to find a way for that
That is the true path. True transformation. What happens is when you start eliminating all the gross attentions, are completely gone and go on a very, very subtle level and the subtle mind is __1:32:06.8 and focused on nature of reality. That is the _____and when you go through with that, more attachments grow more subtle.
All our meditation is to bring that meditation on. Shamatha meditation, or all the different kinds, whatever they are, they tend to _______, That’s what it is. The very definite absolute quiet nature will only be able to bring to the individual the ___.All of them are directed towards that goal. That’s what it is.
The whole idea of retreating, the truth is retreating from the gross attractions outside into a very subtle one point
Audience: Is there a process of visualization that would be of our assistance to bring this? Guhyamsamja tantra for example
Rimpoche: Guhyasamaja tantra has a certain part of visualization in there but that visualization is not basically considered the best way. Are you talking about that? Probably ______________________
Audience: with the mandala with the 5 Buddha families ____________________ the channels and the white drop
Rimpoche: that is all focusing on that dimension. The whole time as well a ___the chakras and the nadis and the energies and the_____________1:34:36.3
Basically the real method is bringing all the energies into central channel, and not only bringing them into the central channel, having them remain in the central channel. Not only try to remain in the central channel but to flow in the central channel and that is the real point. And from there you rise as a typically blue light. This is the process, and that is the process of transforming.
Experience of that is closest to the individual is the dying and the death stage. And that is close to the individual, and having the perfect good death with that. That’s what it is. Do you see that? That doesn’t mean you look back.
All right, so I think___________________1:36:05.2
_____________________________________________________________________labels sometimes good, sometimes not so good. Even ___________________________________ As long as, ______________
These essence of _______ as a Buddhist is _________________eliminated, eradicated obstacles. If you cannot eradicate, lower it. That’s what it is. If you cannot transform it, ____ if you cannot eradicate, reduce. If you cannot reduce then transform. That’s what it is.
Now the questions.
The true transformation, when it happens basically the concentrated level of our mind1:38:38.8 and when you rise out of that you __________That’s very __________________of transform
Audience: Does it happen automatically?
Rimpoche: During that period of the transformation. Do you know why? That is because of concentration power and the subject on which you focus and the process through which you went and the intensity of it, and that’s why it does 1:39:30.3
Audience: is it the focusing or the—
Rimpoche: All of them together, focusing, subject, process — all three together That makes it work
You cannot try until you are ready because then you will die.1:40:05.6 Okay? That is what it is
So this is the real transformation, and since we do not have the real one, then we have the artificial one. The artificial one is then the visualization and the accumulation of merit and the rest. And even when we introduce the earlier practicing, meditating and becoming and getting light and nectar from the enlightened ones, into our body and just by the touch of the body we are purified and all this. That much is the ______we could do it if we are capable of doing that much, and with that purpose we will try to focus on the ________it is the step we can easily, comfortably without any _____to be aware of the _______However, when we _______so hopefully we don’t do that.
Any questions?
Okay. Then we focus on purifying the mind of attachment
Audience: Purifying attachment, jealousy and pride _____
Rimpoche: Jealousy too is easier for me because_ _________so bring jealousy in together too. Jealousy ______________________ So that is jealousy, there you go.1:43:06.6 That’s _________jealousy. The worst jealousy is either I have it or nobody else has it. That is the worst jealousy. Okay?
So _________we are all experts on all these neuroses. Truly. That lama I told you earlier that ____ one thing I should talk you. We are all experts on neuroses. That is true. So we really don’t have to talk a lot. We see it, we know it, how it feels and what it does. It is the jealousy that is not _________.Whatever it is __Chasing geese. The jealousy makes the person suffer __________________You got it you deserve it.
These are the all jealousy.1:45:00.2 Do not entertain it, jealousy. If you do entertain jealousy it is the worst, worst than wild goose chase_ You will never be able to point it out to satisfy you. it’s not going to be there. Try to get through that. It is the worst thing. You will have new obstacles and more problems.
So that’s them all together. What else is left?
______________crosstalk
Ignorance. Ignorance is something __________It is the deep down source of all our neuroses confused down there. Every single bad thing comes all out of there. Really. It is all from there. It is really down there under every neurosis and every denial. Everything, pride and so and forth is very well protected. And the process, we talked earlier, the transformation process and that really strikes at the heart of ignorance. That is the real problem. That is why its called clear light.. It clears ignorance1:47:21.7
The light is the awareness. Turn the light on, the dark goes out, that’s what we did. Ignorance is the darkness. Turn the light on. It goes out. This is it.
Cuts at the heart of ignorance.
The ignorance here is not only not knowing but also wrong knowing. More probably, wrong mind than not knowing. The wrong mind is more difficult to correct than not knowing. Not knowing is the — at least ok, It is the open question here, at least there is hope. The wrong mind is the wrong mind. And the stubbornness on top of that is reinforcing. And when you encounter — close encounters with reality. Awareness of the reality .Not close encounters with the third kind 1:49:06.5 but close encounter with the real reality, awareness of the real reality.
That is the true wisdom, which will completely disappear the total ignorance. And the total ignorance will really disappear, or the result of the total ignorance which is created by the total ignorance, somehow no longer sits there and lies at you because it is exposed1:49:41.7 You know what I mean?
It probably says it is the automatic process. It is the automatic process because the thought of the lie has been removed. We are totally exposed. You are now naked. There is nothing covering you. There is nothing shading you. You are totally exposed. That is what it is.
So therefore -- you _____all the lies that you built up, confusion that built up, lies that built up. Just to let myself down, I built all this. It’s now totally exposed.
Does that make sense to you?
The lie in your mind is now totally exposed so it can no longer work. That’s why I said it’s an automatic process. Okay? The ignorance all fits together now. .1:51:25.3
Even the ignorance, the metaphor of the ignorance in the form of the traditionally --Tibetan draw a blind man is poking his own eye with an arrow. So that is the metaphor. Because either wrong knowingly or not knowingly or particularly wrong knowingly, you make yourself _______________it is the cover-up story actually, That’s what it is.
A cover-up story. Last night I was listening to what happened to the TWA 800 and the some kind of military exercise they thought mistaken shoot and they try to do a little cover-up so they cannot find the truth. So I was thinking that’s exactly what ignorance functions. And we cover it up and we think we can have happiness by putting up different buildings this thing and that thing and this and that and that is how we build up. That’s how it is and when it is naked and exposed every buildup collapses Totally. That’s what it is. Any questions?
Audience: What is the true nature of reality?
Rimpoche: That is a good question If I had a simple answer I would have shared it with you a month ago but there is no simple answer for us. Why? Because of that ignorance and because of the ______The true nature of __________is free of deluded. Does that make sense to you? Probably not. Free of deluded ___whether it is mind or absolute reality whether its emptiness whether it is wisdom whatever you call it, I don’t care. It’s reality.
How you find it is the big question. How you find it, attain it. If you are looking for emptiness from the empty point of view. 1:55:15.1, from that view ____________ If you look at the empty you’re not going to find emptiness. If you look at an empty room you’re going to find the room. What else are you going to find? And that becomes __________
So the solution is to ________1:55:55.2_____ Every ____________________to understand how we exist should be able to _________________ Are you with me? ___If you look at the zero, you never find the zero zero zero after the zero.
If you look how do you exist, if you look deeply how you exist, from that point of view you will see how do we not exist. Are you with me? This is real wisdom now.1:57:18.8 Really. How do we not exist? We will know it by seeing how we exist. And that is the way we find it — reality. That’s how we find reality.
That is why it says interdependent system and the emptiness complement each other. You see the emptiness from the point of interdependently existing. When you see the point of interdependence is ______ empty. There’s a __________________________ this is how we see the interdependent existence, we see emptiness1:58:42.5
When you see how you exist, by seeing that, that’s how you _____.Are you with me? I can’t say more than that 1:58:58.0 That’s what it is. It’s very clear_ ___not close encounter of third kind ___to see reality ____but that makes the difference between ____________________
Once you see that, everything is different. Everything is different. Everything comes out differently because you really have a _________rely. 2:00:05.6
Let me stop here. I’m going to cut here. More we cannot do here.
That is the process of pretending to be the process of what we described. So, at this moment, what we can do since we don’t have the power to be able to process that within ourselves, we borrow the power from the enlightened beings and hopefully we have received it through that. So the visualization of the coming joy, the light and nectar flowing in to us.
What is the projection you have I don’t care, what is there as long as there is not a ghost up there or an animal, because instead of helping it can harm.
________As long as ___enlightened being___, whatever it is even _________, its okay ____that’s fine 2:01:41.0______________________________Okay?
The desire, can be purified, all this negativity _______how because actually it is ________
Actually process of 2:02:26.3 the transforming is i emptiness, clear light . Gate Gate Paragate Paasamgate Bodhi that is the real mantra_. So what we do is 3 or 4 number of times or more ollowed by Om Mani Padme Hum. Again, the mantra has its own power. The power of the mantra derives from sound. Sound that you produce, you hear.. That is the sound, so it is recommended that you say the mantra.if you don’t mind. Say the mantra.
Audience: So doing the mantra in your mind is not as good?
