Chinese translation And on top of that just combination, on top of that it should be able to function, functionable. Functionable is very important. Chinese translation Why can’t I label a collection of particles like metal particles- I label them brass, it happens to be brass. I label them gold and think I have gold and I have a lot of them? You cannot. Although, the combination of collection of metals even if you label them as gold, it’s not functionable as gold because it is not gold. So it is not just empty totally, there is 0:01:28.6 [inaudible-right?]. Chinese translation One of the reasons why Buddha is so great, why Buddha is more superior than any other teacher and that is the reason why. Buddha is the one who saw this 0:02:26.0 kang ke ten… it is all interdependent nature. Neither it is grow nor it stop growing. Kang ke ten… Neither it is 0:02:48.2 [inaudible] nor karma nor sitting and all these wonderful nature of interdependentness as emptiness is the Buddha who saw this and who taught 0:03:03.9 kang she sing… No one saw this and when shared that whatever he saw and that’s why Buddha is called so great. 0:03:20.2 Chinese translation
It continues. 0:03:50.5 Jig den… All our faults and sufferings, our existence is rooted to this ego, ignorance, confusion combined. What we call ego, rooted to that ego. Chinese translation Buddha saw that, Buddha knew this and in order to return from that ego clutch control, Buddha has given us interdependent nature of existence. Chinese translation Our basic reality is interdependentness. Chinese translation It is true to even our normal sense. Chinese translation Taking a country. A country exists because of the land, because of the people. Chinese translation If there is no land, no matter how much you claim you’re a country, independent, you don’t become like the Tibetans. 0:05:52.2 Chinese translation If there is no people no matter how much you say or claim, it’s not a country, because half portion of the Canadians. Chinese translation So the country exists because of the combination of a land and the people. And communication and label proclaiming ‘country’. Chinese translation
And then also large land. 1 acre land is not going to be country. Honestly. No matter how many people stand up, everything fit in 1 acre- I don’t know if you stand up you maybe fit couple of thousands right? So even then, it is not going to be country because it is not large enough. With the exception of Singapore. Just joking. 0:07:30.4 Chinese translation People means the society. Society is nothing but a collection of people such as yourself, ourself, yourself. Chinese translation So you see the country is dependent rise. Chinese translation So is the environment. Chinese translation So is the inhabitants. Chinese translation And that is the reality of us, us as a country, as people, as a human being, as an individual, as Mr X, Ms B, Ms C, whatever we call it, it’s combination.
That is the interdependentness of existence. 0:09:02.8 Chinese translation You don’t need rocket science to figure that out. Chinese translation Our normal common sense, if you think in the right direction, you will see it. Chinese translation And the true reality, what our common mind can see, the true reality of wisdom, what Buddha talks about is not two separate, it is one. Chinese translation So if the Einstein hasn’t shown up yet and if Einstein didn’t introduce the theory of relativity, today we have extremely difficult to understand what Buddha is talking about emptiness. 0:10:33.2 Chinese translation Crazy scientist who keep on writing on the piece of wood, training backwards and begin to find a point of reference. Chinese translation That point of reference is really the theory of relativity which is one of the points, the essence of what Buddha is, all 2000 years ago, talking about. Chinese translation
When I’m saying that, somebody in America once asked me ‘Do you think Einstein is ariya?’ Chinese translation I did not say Einstein understands emptiness but Einstein really help us to negate. The object of negation what the emptiness is all about and that when you negate object of negation, what you’re left is the lack of existence and that’s what emptiness is all about. 0:12:31.2 Chinese translation When you get to that level, then it changes every outlook that we have, every priority that we have, everything whatever we're looking completely different. Chinese translation When you’re reaching to that point, well meditative state, virtually you will perceive nothing existed. Space-like empty. Chinese translation
Space-like empty means space means nothing blocking. If something is blocking, there is no space, it’s occupied. My hand doesn’t go here because of glass of water occupied it. When I go up here, it’s space, I can move, there is nothing blocking. Space-like means nothing blocking, completely openness like that. 0:14:17.8 Chinese translation So this is what it meant, meditative state of emptiness, space-like. Chinese translation And when you’re focussing on that, you are completely absorbed yourself in that focussing space like empty. At that moment, at that point, within the object sphere of your concentration, nothing else exists. Chinese translation While it is meditating, while you are focussed, it almost emerged the observer and what you are observing becomes almost oneness, no separation almost to that level. 0:16:01.8 Chinese translation And that is the level of the third path, path of seeing, first bhumi and what else, there are a number of them anyway. Chinese translation
Then when you wake up from that, when you wake up from that meditative state, everything is different. Chinese translation And then it’s like a sorcerer’s performance type of thing. Chinese translation So everything is different. When you really begin to see- take this wall, the wall is a collection of the particles. 0:17:21.3 Chinese translation When your meditative power is so strong, you can see it, each and every particle exists within that. Chinese translation And each and every particle within that is also not indivisible. Chinese translation When you be able to see that clearly, at that moment, you can walk through that wall. Wall doesn’t break. You go beyond the law of physics. 0:18:10.4 Chinese translation Whether you walk through the wall or not but what you really established is the fundamental basis of wisdom. Knowing the reality of how we exist. Chinese translation
And that mind used by mind which has received, which has already been trained focussing at the fifth paramita level and this sixth paramita level and the fifth paramita level when joined together and then it becomes very powerful. Chinese translation So that is the 21 and 22 point is that. 0:19:42.2 Chinese translation And that is also called union which is described in the 23rd. Chinese translation You should meditate space-like voidness with completely absorbed in your meditation session and on illusion like voidness- the essence is this. 0:20:19.8 Chinese translation So once you reach to that level, you become eligible to use Vajrayana. Chinese translation The solid foundation of the Vajrayana is wisdom and compassion. Chinese translation And I guess that’s about it and probably you need to know a little bit about what Vajrayana is all about. Chinese translation
This is something extraordinary, our wonderful fortune that had happened. It’s almost like a double blue moon. Blue moons, two moon but double blue moon. 0:21:39.8 Chinese translation It doesn’t come very often. Buddha himself says 0:21:56.0 Udum wa ren… Just like a udumwara flower. A lot of people translate as lotus, it’s not. Lotus is always there, not even utpala. It’s udumwara. Udumwara’s different than utpala. Udumwara is mythological flower, Hindu-Buddhist mythological flower which is supposed to be come up when official Buddha was born and when official Buddha becomes officially declared Buddha, the flower blooms. When that official Buddha passed away, flower goes away and not come up till another- not Buddha- but official Buddha. Official here means this eon supposed to have 1000 official buddhas. We are in the tenure of fourth buddha, the Sakyamuni Buddha.
Anyway, sometimes I wonder in this part of the world, may be a little left over from the third official buddha. Amitabha's a little left over. Sakyamuni is I think taking over because this part of the world, there’s a lot of interesting things. One thing in the Chinese tradition, Amitabha is Amituofo and becomes very important. Namo Amituofo right? And similarly, you called Maitreya Buddha the Chinese laughing buddha. Chinese laughing buddha you see them as monk and that is during the Amitabha Buddhist period because Amitabha Buddha’s period, Maitreya Buddha was a monk. Sakyamuni Buddha’s official period, Maitreya Buddha is prince. And future the Maitreya Buddha is the official Buddha. So 0:24:19.7 mons se ge.... Praising bodhisattva Maitreya… ta do che… In future, it’s Buddha Maitreya. So looking at the culture here, the Amitabha period and Maitreya Buddha is looking as a monk, all of them is continuation of the Amitabha Buddha’s official period, Buddhism functioning along with Sakyamuni Buddha’s official tenure, it’s functioning.
Hopefully, we will continue this as Maitreya Buddha’s official period to link them up all three of them together, how wonderful it is. 0:25:15.4 Chinese translation It may be my crazy thinking. Chinese translation Don’t take granted because I said so. Chinese translation So anyway we are talking about the Vajrayana and out of 1000 buddhas in this eon the Vajrayana is supposed to be only 2 maybe 3. Chinese translation Happens to be the Sakyamuni period. Chinese translation Maybe the eleventh one Chinese translation and presuming the last one- because last one has committed whatever 999 buddhas official period whatever they used, I will use it. So because that last buddha’s motivation was that so hopefully there, so that much rare. 0:27:51.7 Chinese translation
And why it’s so important? Because way the Vajrayana functions does not function like a sutra at the causal level. Vajrayana functions at the result level. Chinese translation That’s also called result yana. Chinese translation And right from the beginning, individual practitioners almost functioning, try to function like a fully enlightened being. Chinese translation Then keep on improving. Chinese translation And the essence of it- because I don’t have much time- so the essence of it. In Vajrayana, there’s four classes of Vajrayana: 0:29:19.2 kriya, charya, yoga and maha anu yoga tantra. Four kinds of tantras. Chinese translation And the highest tantra is we consider maha anu yoga tantra. Chinese translation Maybe there’s a father tantra, mother tantra, nuru tantra, all this, forget about it. Maha anu yoga tantra is the highest tantra. Chinese translation
And how does one enter in the maha anu yoga tantra? Through four initiations. Chinese translation First initiation is called 0:30:21.8 vase or water initiation. Chinese translation Second initiation is called secret initiation. Chinese translation Third is called wisdom initiation. Chinese translation Fourth is called word initiation. Chinese translation Okay what does first initiation do? Chinese translation 0:30:57.0 Po wan kang… The idea is the water initiation washes away. What do you wash away? Ordinary appearance and ordinary perceptions. Not negative emotions and hatred, anger, no. Ordinary perception and ordinary conceptualisation. Chinese translation Why ordinary perceptions are washed away? Because it’s supposed to bring a pure perception, pure appearance, pure perception because-
